HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 010808-Y - Reducing Speed Leander RdRESOLUTION NO. O / O a' D8— Y
A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas
supporting the extension of a speed limit of 45 miles per hour on RM 2243
(Leander Road) from its Current Location at Mile Point 19.468 to
approximately 1000 Linear Feet West of the West Curb Line of Riverview
Drive at the Approximate Mile Point 19.278.
WHEREAS, there are several subdivisions along Leander Road up to and including the
Riverview Estates Subdivision, a portion of which is located at the intersection of Riverview Drive and
RM 2243 (Leander Road); and
WHEREAS, the current posted speed limit on RM 2243 (Leander Road) from mile point 19.468 to 411
feet west of the west curb line of River Ridge Drive is 45 miles per hour, at which point, the speed limit
increases to 55 miles per hour.
WHEREAS, the voting citizens who reside in the Riverview Estates Subdivision and other
neighboring subdivisions, well as the elected official of this district have a great concern for the
safety of the residents of the neighborhoods in this area because of the volume, speed, and type of
traffic heading east bound into the jurisdictional limits of Georgetown and the volume, acceleration
of the speed, and type of traffic heading west bound in this area on RM 2243 (Leander Road); and
WHERAS, because of these safety concerns, it is logical that east bound traffic reduce its
speed to 45 mile per hour before the traffic reaches the intersection of Riverview Drive and RM
2243 (Leander Road), and that west bound traffic not accelerate its speed to 55 miles per hour until
after the traffic passes the intersection of Riverview Drive and RM 2243 (Leander Road); and
WHERAS, local public safety officials and transportation planning officials all concur that a
reduction of and the movement of the speed limit would eliminate a serious safety problem that
currently exists in this area along RM 2243 (Leander Road); and
WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown requests the assistance of the State of Texas and the
Texas Department of Transportation to ensure that the speed limit of 45 miles per hour on RM 2243
(Leander Road) be extended from its current location at mile point 19.468 to approximately 1000
linear feet west of the west curb line of Riverview Drive at the approximate mile point 19.278; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
