HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 083007-C - Property Tax IncreaseRESOLUTION NO. 0 oo7mC A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, RATIFYING THAT THE ADOPTION OF THE 2007/08 ANNUAL OPERATING PLAN WILL REQUIRE RAISING MORE REVENUE FROM PROPERTY TAXES THAN IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR. WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Texas has amended Section 102.007 of the Local Government Code: and WHEREAS, a separate vote of the City Council is required to ratify that the adoption of the 2007/08 Annual Operating Plan will require raising more revenue from property taxes than the previous year; and WHEREAS, this resolution represents such action; N OW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN TEXAS THAT: S ECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements the following policy of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element 1. Finance Policy Statement 13.0, which states: "Ail municipal operations are conducted in an efficient business -like manner and sufficient financial resources for both current and future needs are provided", and further finds that the enactment of this resolution is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan. S ECTION 2. The 2007 notification statement that "This Budget will raise more total property taxes than last year's budget by $1,567,207 or 17.9%, and of that amount $1,199,045 is tax revenue to be raised from new property added to the tax roll this year. S ECTION 3. The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign this resolution and the City Secretary to attest. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption. RESOLVED this 30th day of August, 2007.
