CITY OF GEORGETOWN
ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT MEETING
MINUTES
August 20, 2002
Tom Nichols called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Other Board members present were Thomas
Bennett, Ken Fuller, John Kirby, and Audrey McDonald. Michelle Gambino and alternate Joshua
Konkle were absent.
Staff members present were Bobby Ray, Chief Planner/Current Planning, and Tammye Sharpe, Recording
Secretary.
1. Action from Executive Session. None.
Agenda:
2. Minutes of the July 16th regular Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting were considered.
Thomas Bennett made the motion to approve the minutes. The motion was seconded by
McDonald, which passed with a vote of 5-0.
3. Consideration and possible action on a variance to the Zoning Ordinance for Block H (CTR/PT)
of the Clamp Addition located at 803 east 8th Street.
Bobby Ray gave staff report, stating that the applicant’s basis for the variance request was
outlined in Exhibit C of the report.
Board members confirmed that the proposed addition would give t he total area of the lot a 37%
building coverage instead of the 30% allowed, and that the proposed addition would have
1,313 square footage (136% of the existing floor area, which is 900 square feet) – the allowed
square footage would be 450 square feet. All members were understanding of the request for
the variance. Nichols said that the applicant could make the total of both structures to be 1,249
square feet to be in compliance, and re-submit his variance request.
Kirby made the motion to approve the variances on the basis of the exceptional narrowness
and shallowness of the property with the condition that no more than 37% of the total site area
be covered by structures and the sideyard of the addition maintain a minimum of 7 feet.
Bennett seconded the motion. The motion was denied by a vote of 1-4. Bennett, McDonald,
Finn and Nichols voted to deny.
Bennett made the motion to adjourn. McDonald seconded. The vote was unanimous. Meeting was
adjourned at 6:42 p.m.
