A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GEORGETOWN, TEXAS REQUESTING THE TEXAS
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO IMPLEMENT
SCHOOL ZONES WITH APPROPRIATE SPEED REDUCTIONS
ALONG SH 29 EAST CONTIGUOUS TO THE GEORGETOWN
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT (GISD) NINTH GRADE
CAMPUS AND ST. HELEN'S CATHOLIC SCHOOL;
PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, AND PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown has adopted the recent speed
reductions and the maximum prima facia speed limits recommended by the
Texas Department of Transportation ("TxDOT") resulting from its recent traffic
investigation; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown considers these
speeds are unsafe for parents and students making turning movements into the
schools; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Abbe Boring, GISD Superintendent of Schools, and Sister
Mary Jean Osolvsky, Principal of St. Helen's Catholic School, are in support of
reduced speed school zones on SH 29 East during school start and release times;
and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF
GEORGETOWN:
SEC HYON 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this
resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are
incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied
verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements the
Goal(s) and Objectives of the City's Overall Transportation Plan Element of the
2030 Comprehensive Plan:
Goal 1— "Provide an efficient, safe and connective transportation system
that is coordinated with the projected and existing needs and with plans
for future growth."

SECTION 2. The City Council of the City of Georgetown hereby finds it to
be in the best interest of the public to request that the Texas Department of
Transportation implement reduced speed school zones on SH 29 East during
school start and release times. (St. Helen's Catholic School between 7:30 am and
8:10 am and between 3 15 pm and 4 45 pm) (Georgetown Ninth Grade Campus
between 8:30 am and 9:00 am and between 3:40 pm and 4:15 pm)
SECTION 3. The Mayor is hereby authori?ed to sign this Resolution and
the City Secretary to attest thereto on behalf of the City of Georgetown.
