HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_LAB_04.09.2012DIRECTOR'S MONTHLY REPORT
GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
March 2012
HIGHLIGHTS
• Dorn Snell's paintings hung in the galleries during March. His works often evoke
strong responses and the director received several complaints about the
inappropriateness of Snell's paintings for display in the library. ;All who complained
directly to staff were invited to write down their comments and to bring their concerns
to the Library Advisory Beard.
• The Wednesday Nite Players, an instrumental ensemble of flute, clarinet, violin, and
piano, performed sacred and classical music in the Hewlett Room on Sunday, March
18. The shift in location of the live music event (to take advantage of the Steinway
piano) had a negative affect on attendance.
• Spring break activities at the library were very well attended. Lego Fun, on Monday,
craft projects with the Native Plant Society on Tuesday, and the Tea Party on
Wednesday were all very busy. In two seatings, nearly 400 attended the tea party.
• The 11 O Wlmob le arrived in mid -March and by March 21 enough of the wrap was
finished so that Eric Lashley could display the vehicle to the Mayor and Council
members before the Council meeting. Michele Harber, the community outreach
librarian who is in charge of the bookmobile, had a day of driver's training on March
0. The next day she and Eric made a trial run to Sun City and on April 2 the two of
them began the regular bookmobile schedule.
• Attendance at the free computer classes tapered off and several were cancelled
because no one registered.
STAFF ACTIVITIES
• Sheri Miklaski, Bethni King, and Suzette Davidson attended the conference of the
Public Library Association, which was held in Philadelphia March 12-17.
• Eric Lashley spoke on March 19 to a breakfast meeting of the Chamber o
Commerce about the proposed art center. On March 21. he spoke to a local woman's
club about the library,
• On March 2 Eric Lashley and Linda Nix attended the regional meeting of CTLS that
was held in Wells Branch. Eric participated in a meeting of the CTLS Long -Range
Planning Committee on March 16.
