CONSIDERATION OF AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON THE FOLLOWING:
1. Introduction of Michele Harber, Community Outreach Librarian —
Rosa Garcia: Rosa introduced Michele Harber, the new Community
Outreach Librarian. Michele told the board what she planned to
accomplish with the bookmobile as well as the locations with which she
has been in contact.
2. Bookmobile — Rosa Garcia: Rosa reported the Friends have raised
approximately $105,000 for the bookmobile. The Friends have scheduled
two future fundraisers; a lunch on October 19 in honor of Dr. Morton King,
who was a founder of the Friends organization, and a wine tasting on
December 5 sponsored by Grape Creek Wineries.
3. Filing vacant staff positions — Rosa Garcia: Rosa reported the library
has two vacant positions: a cataloging librarian position as well as the
library assistant position vacated by Michele Harber. Eric has submitted
requisitions for these positions to be posted. These positions are critical
for the library to maintain our current level of service.
4. Report on quarterly meeting, future of CTLS — Linda Nix: Linda
reported she and Eric attended the CTLS Membership meeting on Friday,
September 23. Linda said CTLS hoped to raise over $300,000 by August

may have to close the doors. Linda also reported the changes to the
Inter -Library Loan programs taking place across the state.
5. Schedule of future meetings — Rosa Garcia: The November 2011
meeting has been canceled. No other future meetings have been
canceled or rescheduled.
Chair Betty Ann Sensabaugh adjourned the meeting at 7:30 PM.
Respectfully submitted,

DIRECTOR'S MONTHLY REPORT
GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
September 2011
HIGHLIGHTS
• Library staff and friends of former library employee Dixie Sue Hanna dedicated a stained glass
window to Dixie's memory on Sunday, September 18. Dixie, who died in 2007 after putting in a
regular day at the library, worked for the library for more than twenty years. During that time she
selected nearly all of the library's adult materials. Rachael Pattillo, a member of the library staff,
designed the 2-pane window, and Susan Dittmar of Inspiration Glass translated the design into
stained glass. Ed Rollman of the City's facilities staff did the installation. Donations from Dixie's
friends paid for the window.
• The Williamson County Art Guild filled both galleries with art works in a wide variety of
media, including oil, watercolor, acrylic, photographs, and mixed media.
• Mariachi de Jalisco, whose five members played instruments and sang, too, entertained an
enthusiastic crowd on Sunday, September 18.
• Michele Harber was selected to be the public outreach (bookmobile) librarian. More than 100
persons applied for the job and the four who interviewed besides Michele were extremely
qualified applicants. Michele, who completed her MIS degree about two years ago, joined the
staff as a library assistant in January 2011. She had done her homework before the interviews.
We were very impressed by her understanding of our goals for the bookmobile and she offered
concrete ideas about how to achieve those goals.
• There were no cuts to the library's budget in the FY 11/12 budget Council approved on
September 13.
STAFF ACTIVITIES
• On September 6 and 8 Eric Lashley went with Judy Apel to speak to the Sun City Rotary Club
and the Daughters of the American Republic about the bookmobile fundraising campaign.
• On September 23, Eric Lashley attended the CTLS quarterly meeting in Cedar Park. The
direction that CTLS will take in the coming year remains unclear.
PATRON COMMENTS FOR September 2011
Comment: Not sure what started the "Let's have Statues" idea at the GT library, but enough already!
We looked at grotesque busts and horrific art pieces, but looking at a Rhinoceros Ass for months was
really the topper.
Yes, it is politically correct to pretend that any artwork is acceptable, but true art reflects
beauty, in design color form, etc.
Just because someone chooses to "up chuck" with art supplies does not make it art and DOES
NOT make it appropriate in the PUBLIC LIBRARY — where it is forced on everyone (yes, I said
forced.)
Please reconsider the constant stream of tripe that is offending our senses at every glance.
When I am in a library, considering or pondering the material I've just read, I don't appreciate
looking up and seeing ugly or grotesque sights.
Comment: Thank you for changing the hold music!
Comment: The self checkout computers were not working on Sunday but not I employee bothered to
put a sign up to this fact.
Comment: Something needs to be done about the speed of the Internet. Spent over I hour trying to
get into an application. Unacceptable. (Never got it/left)
Comment: Great music collection but needs more metal, alternative, and Hip Hop.
• Comment: More, more and more there is less less and less service. That is why I love this lace.
r Y p
Service with a smile every time!
Comment: "Library" is usually a quiet place.
Comment: Having a TV screen in kid's room is a bad idea.

Shelly,
I'm sorry to see you resign, but I understand.- In the future, please think about reapplying when your travel
schedule is lighter. I would really enjoy having a former librarian on the board. To officially resign, you
need to contact Jessica Brettle; City Secretary. Jessica can be reached at
Jessica. Breftlea georgetown.org or 930-7715.
1 look forward to seeing you at the library.

Subject: Library Advisory Board
Hello, Eric: I see that I have missed two meetings of the Advisory Board, and will need to miss
one more this year in OctoberbecauseI will be out of town the early part of October and won't be
home in time for the October 10 meeting. I didn't realize that my schedule would be so jammed
with travel when I applied for the position. It seems that the weeks I am away happen to be the
weeks of the library board meetings. The library deserves to have members of the Board who can
meet their obligations for attendance. Therefore, although sad., I would like to resign so that
someone else who will be able to attend the meetings more regularly can take my place as a more
steady participant. I hope that in future years, as my travel schedule becomes less filled, I might
apply again for the Board and help with the many worthy projects that you and the library
undertake. You are an outstanding library administrator and the Georgetown library, under your
direction, is quite extraordinarily unique! What a pleasure it is to have such a valuable resource
so close by.
Sincerely,
Shelley Karp
