DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Director Lashley reported visitations were down for the month of February, but circulation was slightly up over last year. Visitations were down due to the Library closing a day due to snow. Eric asked if everyone had received a copy of the latest board membership list with contact information Each member indicated they had received the list and the information was correct. Eric announced the Children s Services staff attended a Summer Reading workshop in Wells Branch on February 11. Director Lashley announced the following upcoming events: March 16 -- Annual Tea Party March 20 — Cajun Music by the Charles Thibodeaux and the Austin Cajun Aces April 3 — WOW! Bookmobile Kickoff event with the Jitterbug Vipers April 14 — Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon April 16 — last day for tax assistance April 29 — wine tasting event for Georgetown Reads! April 30 — Picture Circus children's event Eric read the patron comments and distributed copies of the 3 letters to the editor printed in the Williamson County Sun in regards to the rhino sculpture. CONSIDERATION OF AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON THE FOLLOWING: 1. Introduction of new members - Eric Lashley: Betty Ann asked for all the members to introduce themselves to the board. Shelley Karp moved to Georgetown in May 2010 from Pennsylvania and Lydia Harkey has been in Georgetown since the late 90's and has two daughters. 2. Election of vice chair and secretary — Eric Lashley" Glen Mautner made the motion to elect Shana Nichols for vice chair and Marisue Miller for secretary. Betty Ann Sensabaugh seconded the motion The motion passed unanimously. 3. CTLS news and issues — Eric Lashley" Eric reported he and Linda Nix attended a CTLS meeting in Bertram, Texas, on March 4 Eric distributed information concerning the proposed cuts to the State Library's budget. He reported that unless funding changed dramatically, CTLS would not have paid staff to coordinate the activities of the system beginning sometime in 2012 4. Bookmobile — Eric Lashley: Eric repeated that the WOW! (Words On Wheels) bookmobile fundraising will kick off on April 3 from 2- 4 p.m. at the library. He reported that the City and the Friends have applied for 3 grants and will apply for more in the weeks to come Director Lashley said he will meet with a bookmobile manufacture on Tuesday, March 15 to discuss the features and purchase price of the vehicle. 5. Central Texas Digital Consortium and OverDrive — Eric Lashley" Eric noted two lines on the monthly statistics report now show the circulation of the downloadable audiobooks and e-books. He stated the library would be boycotting purchasing any e-books from the publisher Harper Collins due to their limiting e-Book check-outs to 26 total check-outs. Eric realizes this may cause concern for some patrons, but it doesn t make sense to purchase an e-Book our patrons may not be able to use. He also stated the members of the consortium met face to face for the first time in Temple and created some rules and guidelines for the members to follow. 6. Possible Arts Center — Eric Lashley" Eric reiterated that the City would hold a bond election in May for a new public safety facility on D B Woods Road Eric stated there have been discussions of converting the old police station into an Arts Center if the police vacate it in 2014. 7. Georgetown Reads! - Eric Lashley: Eric reported the Georgetown Reads! program will kick off on April 1. The staff is planning an author talk, author dinner, canned food drive, cooking demonstration, scavenger hunt, and wine tasting. Eric will e-mail the board to let them know when they may sign up for the wine tasting. 8. Schedule of future meetings — Eric Lashley: Board members did not have the need to make any changes at this time to future meeting dates. Chair Betty Ann Sensabaugh adjourned the meeting at 7:50 PM. You all dry a great job; Thanks for everything. Comment- Tripping hazard outside front where the drain is, there is a big step and it should have a grate on it. Comment: I moved here from Westport Coen. And the Westport library had 12 times the circulation of other libraries within the state and it was well used and four times the size of the Georgetown Public Library. However, this library is nicer and even better. My husband always complained about the libraries where we lived. Not anymore, "They have my books." Comment: When the library has performances (which are so wonderful) please post a sign asking people to not be talking during the performance. Several people noticed inconsiderate behavior by persons they though were in charge (but not associated with the library) walking around and talking during the music, GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY Comparative Fiscal Year Statistics 2010 2011 Oct Nov € oe Jan Feb Annual Total Patron Visits Current Year 31410 27524 28878 27363 29232 144407 2009-2010 24312 26060 30456 30302 343465 2008-2009 29997 22046 25586 27240 27116 339790 2007-2008 18694 24295 26951 304799 Circulation 2010 2011 Current Year 40965 40697 35963 42919 40488 201032 2009-2010 38681 39091 38262 42493 40364 524610 2008-2009 38909 33986 33923 37724 __37916 496603 2007-2008 31074 31938 30642 35279 34536 431294 FY 2010-2011 Statistics Children's Programs Annual Total Attendance 1675 455 805 615 610 4160 Programs 7 2 2 0- 5 16 Story Time 19 18 16 24 17 94 Other (Tour, Movies, 2 4 4 2 0 12 After School Progran 0 1 0 0 0 3 Other Services ILL Ordered 61 57 34 50 43 245 ILL filled 49 43 32 37 31 192 Lg Print Circuit 200 200 200 200 200 1000 Internet usage (persons) 8259 7736 7257 7918 6346 37516 Overdrive usage (E-books) 0 0 0 162 128 290 Overdrive usage (audiobook 0 0 0 97 62 159 Volunteer Hours Adult 672.25 702.00 526,75 622,50 709,75 32312 Teen 38.50 16.50 2000 13.00 8.00 96.00 Community Service 246,25 100.75 124,00 256.00 178.00 905.00 Total 957,00 819.25 67035 891,50 89575 4234.2 Registrations City Residents -new 136 110 66 116 128 56 GISD tads' Cards 8 16 3 16 13 56 Non -residents -new 19 29 15 34 23 120 Total 163 155 84 166 164 732 Cash Receipts Finesi'Misc, Revenue 2894.32 2926.17 2695.86 3053,84 2879.23 14449.42 Non-resident fees 2105.00 16%00 1445.00 279&00 2035,00 10030 00 Donations 4572.23 1370.32 1151,97 1365.58 1680,62 10140.72 Gifts/Memorials %00 200.00 160.00 3672. 5 995.00 5077.2 Meeting Room Use persona attdg meetings 3815 2724 1710 2604 2845 13698 Library Collection Changes Copies Added 1088 1208 1278 1097 1068 5739 Copies Discarded 1108 589 1321 2762 935 6715 Donations Added 24 127 231 298 300 1180 Notes: GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY .
