ABSENT: David Ciambrone and Glenn Mautner STAFF IN ATTENDENCE. Eric Lashley - Library Director OTHERS IN ATTENDENCE: Linda Nix — CTLS Lay Representative AGENDA• 1. Minutes of last Meeting: The meeting was called to order by Chair Betty Ann Sensabaugh at 6:30 PM. Shana Nichols made the motion to accept the minutes of the March 2011 Library Advisory Board Meeting and Marisue Miller seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 2. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Director Lashley reported circulation and visitations for the month of March both were up over the previous year. Eric announced many staff members would be attending the Texas Library Association's Conference in Austin the week of April 11. He also reported he met with the head of the Sun City Library to discuss the bookmobile project. She did not have any concerns about the bookmobile project and was glad to see the library reaching out to the community. She mentioned having a group of volunteers for the bookmobile with a possible name, Friends of the Bookmobile. Eric thanked Sue Miller for all of her efforts and work in helping with the annual tea party, which was a great success. Eric reminded the Board there would be a volunteer appreciation luncheon on Thursday, April 18 at noon. Eric spoke about the WOWI Bookmobile kick-off event held April 3 He also spoke of his appreciation to the Temple Public Library for volunteering to bring their vehicle for the event. Director Lashley also announced the Friends of the Library were going to have a booth at the Red Poppy Festival to promote the bookmobile project. Director Lashley also reported the Community Impact newspaper reported thelot at 8th and Martin Luther King Jr is scheduled to be paved soon Eric tried to get confirmation of timing from the County, but has been unsuccessful in getting a reply. Eric reported tax season is almost over and this was the smoothest year to date. This year saw very few problems and very happy patrons. Eric reminded the Board of the Picture Circus event on April 30 and he read over the patron comments. CONSIDERATION OF AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON THE FOLLOWING. 1. 2011/12 Budget Input - Eric Lashley• Eric read comments submitted by Glenn Mautner. The Board discussed the need to support the bookmobile and other services of the library. Sue Miller asked if the library needed to make cuts, where would we make cuts? Eric responded that in the past the library has been willing to cut the travel and training budget. Most of the budget is personnel and the only areas to cut that would have the least impact on the patrons are travel, training and postage. 2. CTLS news and issues — Eric Lashley: Eric reported that no new funding was expected from the State budget for CTLS funding Eric and Linda reported the news is depressing for many of the small libraries in our area. 3. Bookmobile — Eric Lashley• Eric reported the Friends' bookmobile committee has been hard at work planning the WOW! Bookmobile campaign. They are scheduled to send out a solicitation letter by mail in the next few weeks. So far, the response has been positive. 4. Georgetown Reads! — Eric Lashley Eric read a list of events for Georgetown Reads! and so far the response has been great with the food drive and cook book giveaway Eric reported the wine tasting event was almost full. 5. Schedule of future meetings — Eric Lashley: Board members did not have the need to make any changes at this time to future meeting dates. Chair Betty Ann Sensabaugh adjourned the meeting at 7:35 PM. DIRECTOR'S MONTHLY REPORT GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY March 2011 HIGHLIGHTS • Charles Thibodeaux and the Austin Cajun Aces livened the library lobby on Sunday, March 20} , • The Texas Wax Encaustic Arts display continued until March 11, after which Wes Odell arranged for an impromptu two -week mixed display of photos and paintings provided by members of the Sun City Visual Arts Club: • Spring brew activities in the children's room were very well attended. Monday was arts and crafts day, on Tuesday the kids were invited to perform in a talent show, Wednesday was the annual tea party, Thursday featured a performance by the Green golly Project (music and stories), and on Friday Staci gray sang, danced, and made everyone laugh: STAFF ACTIVITIES • Eric Lashley and Linda Nix attended the CTLS meeting in Bertram on March 4. • On March 24 Kathleen Bowling, Robert Barber, Therese Fernandes, and Gloria Powers attended a CTLS-sponsored customer service workshop at the Carver Branch Library in Austin, • On March 28 Sheri lilliklaski and Eric Lashley visited Nancy Davis, the coordinator for the library at Sun City, to present the library's plans for the bookmobile. • Rosa. Garcia and Eric Lashley matte their annual presentation to the Sun City Kiwanis Club on March 29. The club gave them a check for $1000 to be used for children's programs. Patron Comments for March 2011 Comment: Please ;et rid of the Rhino. I'm tired looking at hisbuttevery time I leave. Comment: Please get a female rhino for the other one. He looks lonely. Comment: Couldn't find the new non-fiction book even though it said it was in....no order in these new ones! (Upstairs is fine, just these new books downstairs).: Comment: Get Smallville Season Comment: Georgetown Library is awesome! WAY better than RR. Comment: We really like the bronze artwork at the library (rhino, bull; frog; etc.)! Comment: Would be excellent to have a computer terminal with access to Internet for genealogy patrons and a copier on the l'# floor for patrons, Comment: Can you find a place on the website to advertise the ``specials" at Second hand. Prose? It would be great to know when the books are 2 for 1. Comment: Deep the Rhino.
