Respectfully submitted, Marisue Miller , Secretary Betty Ann Sensabaugh, Chair DIRECTOR'S MONTHLY REPORT GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY May 2011 HIGHLIGHTS • Meet Johannes Brahms, May's live music event, was special in several ways. It had been planned to promote the June Festival of the Arts, which this year celebrates Johannes Brahms. Ms. Rosa engaged three classical musicians to perform works byf Brahms. Then it seemed logical to invite Ellsworth Peterson, the artistic director of the Festival, to introduce the music and talk about it. Finally, due to the death of Drusilla Huffmaster Anderson, the piano she had agreed to donate to the Georgetown Symphony Society was delivered to the library a few days before the music event, so the recital became a memorial to Ms. Anderson. Approximately 10 people attended the event on May 15. • The Sth Grade Advanced Art Glasses exhibited their work in the second fluor galleries this month • Georgetown Readsl events in May included a cooking demonstration on May 5 by chef Jeremy Landry of El Arbol restaurant in Austin. With the assistance of Mauricio Garcia (Rosa's husband), he prepared jambalaya. Can Tuesday; May 10, Susan Mallery, the author of Already Horne, spoke to an enthusiastic audience at the library. Throughout the month the collection of food for the Caring Place continued and library visitors were challenged to identify old and unusual cooking equipment that was on display in the lobby display cases. STAFF ACTIVITIES • Eric Lashley and Sheri Milklaski joined staff from the Georgetown Recreation Center to attend a presentation about computer equipment for the blind. • On May 27 Eric Lashley and .Judy Apel, chair of the bookmobile fundraising campaign, appeared on the Sun City TV channel to increase awareness of the bookmobile project.
