Betty Ann Sensabaugh, Marisue Miller, Shelley Karp, Shana Nichols, Lydia Harkey, and Glenn Mautner. ABSENT: David Ciambrone STAFF IN ATTENDANCE. Eric Lashley - Library Director and Bridget Chapman Asst. City Attorney OTHERS IN ATTENDANCE: Linda Nix, CTLS Lay Representative; Inez Vance, Member of Georgetown Citizen Academy AGENDA 1. Minutes of last Meeting: The meeting was called to order by Chair Betty Ann Sensabaugh at 6:30 PM. Glenn Mautner made the motion to accept the minutes of the May 2011 Library Advisory Board Meeting and Shana Nichols seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 2. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Director Lashley reported circulation and visitations were both up over the previous year for the month of May Eric reported the library had circulated 826 e-books and 518 downloadable audio books in the last 5 months through the new OverDrive digital media services. Eric reported computer usage is expected to rise with the end of school and the library staff has reduced computer usage from 2 hours per day to 1 hour per day to deal with the crowds. Director Lashley also reported new patron registrations should also jump due to summer usage. Eric reported the Johannes Brahms events on May 15 and on June 4 were very successful. Director Lashley reported the Summer Reading kick-off was held on Saturday, June 4 and was well attended. Eric announced the staff met with staff of Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services to discuss the possibility of installing software on a library computer that can assist the blind with navigating the Internet. The library has a few patrons that may benefit from having access to the Internet through the purchase of the special software. Eric also announced the library will be closed August 1 — August 5 to conduct an inventory and re -arrange the nonfiction shelving on the second floor. Director Lashley read the patron comments for the month of May. CONSIDERATION OF AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON THE FOLLOWING: 1. Revision of bylaws — Bridget Chapman, Asst. City Attorney: Bridget Chapman explained that the City Secretary and City Attorney's offices were standardizing the bylaws for all of the City's Boards and Commissions to make it easier in the future to make changes in the City ordinance. Bridget went over each section of the Library Advisory Board's bylaws and answered questions from the board. Glenn Mautner made the motion to accept the new bylaws and Lydia Harkey seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 2. Possible Art Center at old Police Station — Eric Lashley: Eric reported the Arts and Culture Board is recommending converting the old Police Station into an arts center when the police move to the new public safety facility being constructed on D.B. Wood Road. Eric said he made a report to the Main Street Advisory Board on June 10 and will be meeting with the Convention and Visitors Bureau board and Economic Development Advisory Board to discuss the possible arts center and its impact on tourism and the cultural offerings for residents of Georgetown. 3. Library Budget — Eric Lashley: Director Lashley reported the budget process has been delayed with the election of two new council members. Eric said he hopes to have more news on the library's budget by the July board meeting. 4. Bookmobile — Eric Lashley: Eric reported the Friends had raised over $80,000 for the purchase of a bookmobile. The Friends did not receive the two large grants they applied for, but did receive a $2,000 grant from the Chisholm Trail Community Foundation. Eric announced the Friends would be applying for a Brown Foundation grant which may help them reach their goal of $150,000. 5. Schedule of future meetings — Eric Lashley: Board members did not have the need to make any changes at this time to future meeting dates. Chair Betty Ann Sensabaugh adjourned the meeting at 7:40 PM.
