DIRECTOR'S MONTHLY REPORT
. GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
February 2010
HIGHLIGHTS
• Congregation Havurah Shalom, which sponsored the Holocaust exhibit, donated
$500 to the library in gratitude for the outstanding support the library staff provided
during the month that the exhibit was in place.
• Tax help is in full swing. Gerry Sensabaugh is available Tuesday and Thursday
evenings, Wednesday afternoons, and Saturdays. Volunteers with AARP are available
on Wednesday afternoons.
• Jim Fain and A Premium Blend, a trio playing guitar, cello, and piano, entertained in
the lobby on February 21. This marked the resumption of the live music series after
skipping January because of the Holocaust exhibit.
• Dawn Reid, a dental health care educator, did storytime presentations on February
17, 18, 24, and 25. We are happy to have Dawn back after she and her family
relocated to Singapore for several years.
• Stephen Harrigan, author of Gates of the Alamo spoke to more than 180 people in
the Community Rooms on Thursday, February 25. He was the featured author for the
Friends of the Library's quarterly Hill Country Authors series. Attendance at this event
was nearly double what it usually is.
STAFF
• Rosa Garcia, Kathleen Burnop, and Bethni King traveled to the new Bee Caves
library in southwest Austin on February 18 to attend CTLS's workshop on the Summer
Reading Program. The theme this summer will be Catch the Reading Express!
• Valerie Barber was hired to fill Fran Fitzner's former position in Technical Services.
Valerie has been on the public services staff since 1999.
VOLUNTEERS
• Volunteer hours once again passed the 900 hours mark, a level we haven't seen for six
months.
• Comment: Please remove the computer games from the computers. My 5 year old
now likes coming here because of the "fun" computer games! How sad. He use to love
looking at books!
• Comment: Some kind of satelite to pickup/return books, Bookmobile
• Comment: Can't we have another computer extension if a lot are open?
