Nichols, David Ciambrone, and Anjeanette Courtin.
ABSENT: Glenn Mautner and Kathryn Morehouse
STAFF IN ATTENDENCE Eric Lashley, Library Director
OTHERS IN ATTENDENCE: None
MINUTES:
The meeting was called to order by Chair Betty Ann Sensabaugh at 6:30 PM.
David Ciambrone made the motion to accept the minutes of the March 8,
2010 Library Advisory Board meeting and Shana Nichols seconded the motion.
The motion passed unanimously.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
Director Lashley reported that circulation was slightly down for the month of
March but visitations increased.
Eric announced the annual Tea Party was a big success. He thanked all the
volunteers, especially Angie Wright as well as Sue and Clark Miller.
Eric announced the City Manager was presenting an updated facilities plan at the
April 13, 2010 Council workshop that includes a parking garage to be used by the
library as well as a possibility of the old library facility being used for library
services in 2013/14.
Director Lashley reported many of the library staff members would be attending
the Texas Library Association conference in San Antonio April 14-16.
Eric announced the library would be the recipient of a $1,000 donation from the
Pedernales Electric Cooperative through their Lighting the Way program.
Eric read and discussed the patron comments for the month of March.
CONSIDERATION OF AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON THE FOLLOWING:
• Responses to budget survey distributed at last meeting — Eric
Lashley: Board members completed the survey and Eric will compile the
separate survey responses into one response and will forward the
responses to the Finance Department and City Management.
■ Report on trip to Public Library Association (PLA) annual conference
— Eric Lashley: Eric showed a video of the Anythink Brighton Library in
Brighton, Colorado. Anythink is a revolutionary Library System that made
a presentation at the PLA conference in Portland, OR. Anythink has done
a fantastic job of marketing and branding itself as "Anythink". The logo is a
doddle. The system went from being one of the poorest library districts to
one of the best funded districts in Colorado. The system completely
changed their job descriptions and job titles and discontinued the use of
the Dewey Decimal system. Eric picked up a number of ideas he has
presented to the staff and hopes to implement here at our library. Sue
Miller commented that it looked like we were following a number of the
principles outlined in Colorado.
Chair Betty Ann Sensabaugh adjourned the meeting at 7:50 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Anjeanette Courtin, Secretary
