HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 052708-O - Energy Conservation RESOLUTION NO. 059*709 - 0 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, SUPPORTING SENATE BILL 12 BY ADOPTING A GOAL TO REDUCE THE CITY'S ELECTRIC CONSUMPTION BY 5% EACH YEAR FOR THE NEXT 6 YEARS AND CREATING AN ENERGY REDUCTION PLAN TO DO SO, AS MANDATED BY THE TEXAS HEALTH AND SAFETY CODE. WHEREAS, The State of Texas, through Senate Bill 5 (SB 5) and Senate Bill 12 (SB12,) has amended the Texas Health and Safety Code, Section 388.005, mandating changes in energy use by political subdivisions, and requiring that they establish a goal to reduce their electric consumption by 5% each year for the next 6 years; and WHEREAS, The Texas Health and Safety Code, Section 388.005 also requires implementation, by the City, of all cost- effective energy efficiency measures, which are economically feasible, to reduce electric consumption; and WHEREAS, The State of Texas has assigned the State Energy Conservation Office (SECO) to provide assistance and information to help entities in meeting their established goals, as well as, monitor the efforts and progress of the entities in achieving these goals, through required submission of an annual progress report; and WHEREAS, The City of Georgetown has established an Energy Management Team to review the City's energy conservation needs and determine which conservation measures will provide the most benefit. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT the City is committed to reducing its electric consumption, and will work to establish an Energy Reduction Program, as directed by SB 12 and the Texas Health and Safety Code. SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are herebyfound and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements 4.0 Effective Governance of the City of Georgetown 2030 Comprehensive Plan SECTION 2. The City of Georgetown has a goal to reduce its electric consumption by 5% each year for the next six years. SECTION 3. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption.
