The Parks and Recreation Board of the City of Georgetown, Texas, met on Thursday , August 13, 2009.

Minutes
Regular Meeting
1. Call to order
The meeting was called to order at 7:02 pm by Buikema.
2. Roll call
3. Discussion and possible action on the Arts and Culture Board placing Art in
San Gabriel Park — Eric Lashley
The Arts and Culture Board would like to place art in San Gabriel Park and would
like to duplicate what the City of Marble Falls is currently doing with their
downtown. The City of Marble Falls has 41 sculptures displayed in their downtown
and they are there for one year then a new display is showcased. Lashley stated the
City of Georgetown will insure the pieces as theft and vandalism are concerns.
Lashley stated that the City of Marble Falls gets a 20% commission when a piece of
art is sold. Lashley showed possible locations for the sculptures in San Gabriel Park.
The Arts and Culture Board will be funding the display, but will need help from the
Parks Department on the placements of the pads. They are considering 10 pieces of
art. The pads will be limestone and the cost of the limestone will be approximately
$2,000.00 for 10 pads. Art on the Square will take place October 17 and 18 and
Lashley would like to have the sculptures in place by the Art on the Square event.
4. Houck made a motion for the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to strongly
support the Arts and Culture Board for placing art in San Gabriel Park and the
motion was seconded by Laemel and it passed by unanimous vote.
5. Discussion on July 28th Lake Georgetown Tour with consultant, Brian
Schaeffer — Kent Buikema and Bill Mateja
Morrow, Garrett, Mateja and Buikema met with consultant Brian Schaeffer and
toured Lake Georgetown. Brian Schaeffer is the Executive Director/CEO of the
Texas Association of Campground Owners. Scheaffer was asked to present a
pre -feasibility study by October 8th. Schaeffer will be presenting to the City Council

on Oct 27 at 4 pm at council workshop about the possibility of Georgetown Parks
and Recreation Department taking over the three parks at Lake Georgetown. Carey
Weber and Doug Cox with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will also be attending
the workshop. Laemel would like to take a tour of the lake after we receive the
pre -feasibility study.
6. Update on status of football stadium in San Gabriel Park
Garrett stated Georgetown Independent School District (GISD) has removed the
goal posts and associated support posts from the football field. GISD will be
removing the portable restrooms that are on the east side of the stadium in October.
The estimate GISD received for removing the bleachers was $200,000.00 and GISD
has decided they do not want the bleachers.
7. Discussion and possible action on changing the September meeting date

Garrett and Morrow will be attending a conference in San Antonio on September 10
which is the next scheduled meeting date and would like to change the September
meeting date.
8. Pollard made a motion to reschedule the September meeting to Wednesday,

September 16 at 7pm and the motion was seconded by Laemel the motion and it
passed by unanimous vote.
9. Park, Recreation and Trails Master Plan Award
Garrett stated Halff and Associates entered the City of Georgetown Parks,
Recreation and Trails Master Plan for a planning award which won The Current
Plan of the Year Award from the Central Texas Section of the American Planning
Association. They also submitted the master plan for a state level award which they
will receive notification in October.
10. Approve minutes from June 11, 2009 meeting
Laemal made a motion to approve the minutes and the motion was seconded by
Houck and the motion passed by unanimous vote.

Morris made a motion to adjourn the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 7:54 pm.
