The Parks and Recreation Board of the City of Georgetown, Texas, met on Thursday , June 17, 2010.

1. Call to order

3. Discussion and possible action on Parks and Recreation Advisory Board recognition
of members
Laemel gave a report on the Parks Board history. Houck suggests doing nothing as far as
recognition. She states that she feels people volunteer to serve on the board because they
want to. Garrett stated there is not recognition for council members. Morris suggests buying
a frame and having a picture of the parks board member with their favorite place in the park
giving this frame to the member. Garrett suggested having a group picture of board members
framed in a matted frame and have members sign the mat and give it to the member.
Members discussed that they would not want to leave off someone that previously served.
Dance offered the tree idea but Garrett stated there is perpetual cost of the tree. Houck
suggested placing a sign on a park bench during the National Parks and Recreation week.
Buikema suggested recognizing the members at the holiday meeting. Laemel made a
motion that all outgoing members are recognized at the holiday party and the motion
was seconded by Houck and it passed by unanimous vote.
4. Update from Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Subcommittee
The first official meeting of the Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation was held on
June 7, 2010. Laemel presented the logo and the brochure to the board. The Friends will
have a city wide logo contest. Laemel gave a special thank you to Kimberly Garrett and Jill
Kellum for their support and members of the subcommittee: Bob Laemel, Jean Houck and
Simone Pollard. Laemel gave an overview of their last meeting. Garrett added that in July
during National Parks and Recreation Month the Friends of Georgetown Parks and
Recreation will pass out membership applications at the Recreation Center.
5. Discussion and possible action to appoint a Park and Recreation Board member to
the Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation as board liaison
Laemel made a motion to appoint Simone Pollard as the board liaison to the Friends of
Georgetown Parks and Recreation and the motion was seconded by Houck and it passed by
unanimous vote.
6. Update on Art and Culture Board 3M Grant Application for Art in the park
Garrett explained there is some funding left with this grant. The criteria for this grant are that
it must be used for art in the park on the trail. It will be permanent art, not a traveling
display. Garrett stated it will come to the board at a future date.
7. Update on April 27`h Council Workshop
Garrett gave an update to City Council on the Parks and Recreation Department on
memberships and what was needed in the upcoming budget. Garrett stated that in the City
Manager's proposed budget there is an administrative position and an attendant for the
recreation center. The administrative position will be there to help with cash handling and
administrative duties. The attendant will be there to monitor the track and outside area, and
help taking down nets and other duties.
8. Discussion of Parks and Recreation Monthly Review for April and May
It was discussed that the TRAPS workshop will be held here on Friday, November 19`h.
Buikema suggested that the Board members might be available to help with the event. Swim
meets are going well at the Recreation Center. Blue Hole was discussed. Garrett stated that
there is a lot of drinking and fights and jumping off the cliffs. PD has stepped up
enforcement. Garrett stated they are working with the PD to come up with an ordinance to
enforce to help with this issue.
9. Approve minutes from April 8th meeting
Morris made a motion to approve the minutes and the motion was seconded by Pollard and it
was approved by unanimous vote.
