Members Present: Bill Mateja, Daniel Dance, Jean Houck, Kent Buikema, Simone Pollard, Robert Laemel, Shane Morris Members Absent: Staff Present: Kimberly Garrett, Misha Lee Minutes Regular Meeting 1. Call to order The meeting was called to order by Kent Buikema at 7:05 pm. 2. Roll Ca11 Bill Mateja, Daniel Dance, Jean Houck, Kent Buikema, Robert Laemel, Shane Morris, Simone Pollard 3. Introduction of staff member Misha Lee, Recreation Specialist Kimberly Garrett introduced Misha Lee Recreation Specialist at the Georgetown Recreation Center. Misha Lee presented information about her education and past experiences that she brings to her position at Georgetown Parks and Recreation. She is responsible for the fitness programs offered at the Georgetown Recreation Center and she gave information on the fitness programs offered there. 4. Update from Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Robert Laemel gave a list of activities that the Friends have been involved with. 5. Discussion and possible action to appoint board member as liaison to the Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Daniel Dance made a motion to appoint Jean Houck as board member liaison to the Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation and the motion was seconded by Bill Mateja and it passed by unanimous vote. 6. Status on RFQ for Special Event / Festival Area Kimberly Garrett stated herself and city staff will be doing on site visits of other festival areas in the Houston area. Terry Jones, the construction manager, will be attending the site visits and he will be developing the RFQ for this project. 7. Discussion and possible action on distribution of monthly review to City Council Robert Laemel made a motion to use a chain of command to distribute the monthly review that is provided by the Parks and Recreation Department and the motion was seconded by Jean Houck and it was approved by unanimous vote. Kimberly Garrett stated she will ask Randy Morrow to get Paul Brandenburg's approval to send the Monthly Review to City Council. 8. Discussion of Parks and Recreation Monthly Review for November and December There was a review of the November and December monthly review and some discussion. 9. Approve minutes from November llth meeting Robert Laemel gave an update from the Arts and Culture Board as a subcommittee member for an art piece being located on the hike and bike trail. The piece that was selected is Horatio II and the artist is Maria Ripperda who is currently participating in the Art in the Park displays. This piece has been purchased by the Arts and Culture Board and is located at the Playscape near the Recreation Center. There is a correction to the November 11th meeting. Shane Morris attended the November 11th meeting. Bill Mateja made a motion that the minutes be accepted as corrected and the motion was seconded by Robert Laemel and it was approved by unanimous vote. 10. Future agenda items • July 2011 is Parks and Recreation month and would like to get resolution from City Council • Asking City Council to make resolution supporting parks and recreation • Would like to get Banner to cross Austin Avenue the end of June to indicate that July is National Parks and Rec month. • Exceptional Georgetown Alliance — presentation Buikema thanked Robert and Becky Laemel for hosting the holiday party. Robert Laemel suggested having past board members attend the event as well. 11.
