The Parks and Recreation Board of the City of Georgetown, Texas, met on Thursday , May 12, 2011.
Members Present:

Minutes
Regular Meeting
1. Call to order
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Daniel Dance.
2. Roll call
Syed Warisi, Daniel Dance, Robert Laemel, Jim Hailey, Shane Morris
Absent: John Hesser and Jean Houck
3. Discussion and possible action on board goals for the 2011/2012 budget process to
present to finance department
Robert Laemel would like the finance department to present the input worksheet to the board
prior to the meeting with the finance department.
Robert Laemel asked Kimberly Garrett if the goals are in line with the departmental needs
and how City Council uses the information. Daniel Dance asked if there would be a time that
the advisory board could present information to the City Council. Kimberly Garrett stated
the Advisory Board would have to schedule a workshop session with council.
2010/11 Budget Input Boards and Commission
1. What are your board's top goals for the next 3-5 years?
Implement master plan
Release funding for amphitheater and trails
Provide inclusion programs
Playscape renovation or total re -tool
Support the Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation
2. What are your issues/concerns for the upcoming budget cycle?
Provide $150,000.00 toward Capital Replacement
Funding of $25,000.00 toward Inclusion Programming
Provide New lighting for 4 tennis courts at the tennis center
3. Do you feel you are providing adequate service to the citizens? Why or why not?
Exceeding expectations based on:
Citizen survey results
Bond support
State Award
Friends initiative
4. What resources are critical for the upcoming year?
Maintain level of staff for both Parks and Recreation
Provide staffing for Inclusion (special needs) programming
5. Are there any services that we feel we could adjust to help fund critical
resources?
NONE
Jim Hailey made a motion to approve the board goals for 2011/2012 and send to the
finance department and the motion was seconded by Shane Morris. The motion passed
by unanimous vote.
4. Discussion on July 2011 Plans for National Parks and Recreation Month
Jim Hailey stated he spoke with the View and they would be doing an article on the
Georgetown Parks in June. Kimberly Garrett stated NRPA came out with marketing material
for July's National Parks and Recreation Month. The theme this year is Rock Your Park. On
the Parks and Recreation website the NRPA National Parks and Recreation Month banner
has been posted. Kimberly Garrett stated staff came up with ideas to put on a calendar for
giving the public ideas for participating in National Parks and Recreation Month. The
proclamation will be presented by the mayor in July. There will be a free movie in the park
on July 14th at sunset and free swim at the recreation center pool from 4 pm — 8 pm on July 14
`h. Syed Warisi suggested a banner over the roads in Georgetown. Kimberly Garrett will get
specifications for banner over streets and check on authorization. It was suggested to make a
poster of the calendar and display at the Recreation Center and Tennis Center.
5. Presentation on Hike/Bike Trail Expansion
Kimberly Garrett stated the City of Georgetown's a trail grant is recommended for funding at
$200,000.00 from Texas Parks and Wildlife. The trail will be from University Avenue along
Scenic Boulevard, from University Avenue to 171' Street. The Parks and Recreation
Department is working with the Street Department on this project. The Street Department
has $64,000.00 in CBDG funds to build a 5 foot sidewalk for this area and the collaboration
will generate an 8 foot trail instead. The total funding for this trail will be $1,264,000.00.
6. Update from Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation
Robert Laemel gave an update of the May 2, 2011 meeting. He stated membership is up to
74 people. The Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation have identified needs of the
community and have had several applications for services. The Georgetown Swims program
is in the 4th session. There will be a graduation May 23`d, at 4:45 pm open to the public to
attend. The Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation need sponsors to fund the
programs.
7. Discussion of Parks and Recreation Monthly Review for April
Information was presented and there was some discussion.
8. Approve minutes from the April 14`h and April 28th meetings
Robert Laemel made a motion to approve the minutes and the motion was seconded by
Syed Warisi and the motion passed by unanimous vote.
9. Future agenda items
• Approve By -Laws of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
• Information on the RFQ for the amphitheater
• Information on the TPWD grant
• Discussion on July 2011 Plans for National Parks and Recreation Month

10. Adjourn
Shane Morris made a motion to adjourn the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm.
