Members Present: Daniel Dance, Jean Houck, John Hesser, Robert Laemel, Shane Morris, Syed Warisi Members Absent: Jim Hailey Staff Present: Kimberly Garrett, Eric Nuner, Jill Kellum Minutes Regular Meeting 1. Call to order The meeting was called to order by Daniel Dance at 7:00 pm. 2. Roll call 3. Introduction of staff member Eric Nuner, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation Kimberly Garrett introduced Eric Nuner and he gave a brief description of education and work history and described his job responsibilities with the City of Georgetown. 4. Approval of Parks and Recreation Advisory Board By -Laws Bridget Chapman, Assistant City Attorney, gave a brief description of the by-laws and reviewed the by-laws for the Parks and Recreation Board. Jean Houck made a motion to approve the by-laws for the Parks and Recreation Board as presented and the motion was seconded by Robert Laemel and the motion passed by unanimous vote. 5. Discussion on the RFQ for the amphitheater th Kimberly Garrett stated May 20 was deadline for firms to submit their Requests for Qualifications, RFQ's, and there were 13 architect firms that submitted a RFQ. A selection committee will be formed to review the RFQ's and this committee is approved by City Council. The selection committee includes council members, staff and the chair from the board. After the architect is selected they will come to the th board and collect input from the board on design for the amphitheater. June 28 is when the selection committee will be approved by City Council. 6. Discussion on Texas Parks and Wildlife Department grant and Trail Project Kimberly Garrett stated that the department was awarded a trail grant for $200,000. Once a contract is signed, work on the project can begin. The RFQ's for the trail was posted this week. There will also be a selection committee for this project. With the TPWD grant you have 3 years to complete the project. 7. Discussion on July 2011 Plans for National Parks and Recreation Month Kimberly Garrett presented ideas for what activities, facilities and programs are available in the Parks and Recreation Department. There was discussion of posting the calendar of activities to do in the park on the website and having the calendar posted at the Recreation Center and Tennis Center. Syed Warisi presented information he collected about a 3 ft wide X 40 ft long banner that could be placed over an approved TXDOT road in Georgetown to advertise National Parks and Recreation Month. The cost of the banner would be $600.00. There are no funds available to pay for this banner but Syed Warisi will ask IDEAL Sigri s for a donation th for next year to cover the cost of the banner. July 12 will be the date of the proclamation from the mayor for National Parks and Recreation Month and Robert Laemel asked that all members attend. 8. Update from Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Jean Houck stated the Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation is now set up as a 501c3. She stated the Friends partnered with the Georgetown Exceptional Alliance to write a grant request to the Lola Wright Foundation. They received notification they were awarded $7,000.00 for the purchase of a portable pool lift. There was a graduation ceremony for 19 participants in the Georgetown Swims program at the Georgetown Boy's and Girls Club. The participants were presented certificates for participating and completing the program. CiCi's pizza donated pizza and the San Gabriel Women's Club made Rice Crispy treats and cookies. The participants were extremely thankful. The summer session of Georgetown Swims started this week. Scholarship applications for the Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation have been sent out to more areas of town. A Corporate application has been made up to increase membership to the Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation. 9. Discussion of Parks and Recreation Monthly Review for May There was brief discussion on the monthly review. th 10. Approve minutes from the May 12 meeting Robert Laemel made a motion to approve the minutes and the motion was seconded by John Hesser and the motion was approved by unanimous vote. 11. Discussion and possible action on July meeting date For the month of July, the meeting of the Parks and Recreation Board will meet on th July 7 due to scheduling conflicts. Robert Laemel made a motion to move the July meeting to 7th of July and the motion was seconded by John Hesser and the motion was approved by unanimous vote. 12. Future agenda items 13.
