Members Present: Daniel Dance, Jean Houck, Jim Hailey, John Hesser, Robert Laemel, Syed Warisi Members Absent: Shane Morris Staff Present: Kimberly Garrett, Jill Kellum Minutes Regular Meeting 1. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm. 2. Roll Call 3. Presentation from Georgetown Aero Modelers Club Daniel Dance introduced Richard Rays with the Georgetown Aero Modelers Club. Richard Rays gave background information on the club. The club is looking for a new flying site in the area and is requesting help identifying an area from the Parks and Recreation Board with possible parkland or suggestions of other sites in the area. Bobby Galvez then gave a more extensive presentation of the club and their current location and their needs for a new site. They are looking for a permanent field for their club that is large enough to cover the safety issues which would require approximately 60 acres. The board offered suggestions to contact Williamson County and new parks that are being developed. Daniel Dance stated to the board the presentation was for information only and if the members have identifiable areas for the Georgetown Aero Modelers Club to pass the information to Kimberly Garrett. 4. Discussion regarding closing the cliffs at Blue Hole Park — Daniel Dance Kimberly Garrett gave a brief description of Blue Hole Park and how the city acquired the cliff area. She also explained how the ordinance works with closing the cliffs at Blue Hole Park. Board members discussed the pro and cons of closing the cliffs and the effectiveness of closing the cliffs. The board members asked if this issue could be revisited in 3 months. Kimberly Garrett suggested that a police report be obtained stating how many warnings, tickets or arrest there were after the cliffs were closed. Members would also like to know the liability of taking down the signs. 5. Discussion and information regarding amphitheater progress On June 28th City Council approved the selection committee. 6. Discussion on Board Goals, Objectives, Timeline and Format — Daniel Dance There was a brief discussion about the budget timeline and how City Council receives the board goals. Kimberly Garrett stated she was told that City Council receives all city appointed board's goals as a package. Daniel Dance asked how the best way was to get information to City Council about goals. Kimberly Garrett stated the Parks and Recreation Board could have a formal workshop with City Council. Robert Laemel would like to set up a future workshop with City Council to clarify goals and objectives of the board. 7. Discussion and possible action on Parks Bucks program Kimberly Garrett presented a draft revision of the parks buck program. Robert Laemel made a motion to accept the Parks Buck program as presented with updated changes as of 03-10-11 and the motion was seconded by Jean Houck and the motion was approved by unanimous vote. 8. Update on National Parks and Recreation Month The July Parks and Recreation calendar is available at Parks and Recreation facilities. On July l2th at 6 pin the mayor will read a proclamation about Parks and Recreation Month. Eric Nuner will be attending the meeting and will introduce board members. 9. Update from Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Jean Houck stated the monthly meeting of the Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation is scheduled for July 1 lth. A letter introducing the Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation was sent to the mayor and each council person, along with the Friends brochure and an application form. Robert Laemel stated the Friends group gave a presentation to the Sun City Kiwanis Club. 10. Discussion of Parks and Recreation Monthly Review for June There was brief discussion of the monthly review. 11. Approve minutes from the June 9'h meeting Robert Laemel made a motion to accept the minutes and Jean Houck seconded the motion and the motion was approved by unanimous vote. 12. Future agenda items 13. Adjourn Syed Warisi made a motion to adjourn the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 9:24 pm.
