MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
FOR THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2001
Chairman F. Scott LaGrone called the meeting to order at 6:35 o’clock p.m. in the Large
Conference Room at Development Services, located at 904 South Main Street, Georgetown,
Texas.
The following voting members were present: F. Scott LaGrone, Jack Pittman, Will Moore, Ann
Clarke Snell, Bill Jones, Ken Evans, Daniel Vasquez, David McLaughlin, Paula Boggs, David
Hays, Gordon Baker and Johnny Lacy.
The following ad hoc members were present: Clark Thurmond.
Also present were George W. Russell, City Manager, and Shirley J. Rinn, Deputy City
Secretary.
The following members were absent: Tim Harris, Mark Dixon, and Bill Connor
A. Approval of Minutes from January 25, 2001.
Motion by Johnny Lacy, Second by Gordon Baker to approve the minutes for January 10,
2001 and January 13, 2001. Approved (12-0)
B. Discussion and possible action regarding the Draft Economic Plan.
The commission discussed the format of the “Draft Economic Plan” brochure to be used when
commission members talk to community groups and service organizations. There was also
discussion regarding the need to have the proposed plan available to the public on both the City
of Georgetown’s Website and the Chamber of Commerce Website.
C. Finalize membership of the three working groups established on January 25, 2001 in the
areas of 1) small commercial retail, 2) large commercial/industrial, and 3) downtown area
and tourism.
Discussion regarding finalization of working groups. The Commission discussed the criteria for
each of the working groups and decided that the groups would meet at least once a month and
then report to the Commission at its monthly meeting. There was further discussion regarding
the dynamics of how the working groups will coordinate with each other, the Commission and
the Council.
D. Discussion and possible action regarding the brochure of the “Draft Economic Plan” and
EDC’s commitment to visit with community groups and organizations, including
neighborhood associations to promote citizen input to the plan.
Discussion regarding the format for the presentations that Commission members will make
when they meet with community groups. The Commission discussed the need for everyone to
make sure that they are all on the same page when they make the presentations. There was
also a discussion regarding the groups that the Commission would meet with. There was further
discussion regarding how the Commission needed to follow up with the community

E. Discussion regarding issues related to Development Services.
F. Report from City Manager regarding Economic Development Issues, including the status of
hiring a new Economic Development Director – George Russell
G. Adjourn
Motion to Adjourn by Jack Pittman, Second by Daniel Vasquez. Approved (7-0)
Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
