HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_EDAB_08.15.2002Page 1 of 2 City of Georgetown Economic Development Commission Meeting of August 15, 2002 MINUTES Members Present: Gordon Baker Daniel Vasquez Dr. Ronald Swain Henry Carr Russ Peterman Joe Pondrom Davidica Blum Henry Boecker Members Absent: Edward O’Rourke Kathryn Heidemann Staff Present: Charlie Walker Cari Miller Guest Present: Alex Cooke Tom Steelman Darren Hendricks Following verification that a QUORUM was present, Vice Chair Baker called the Meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. DISCUSSION was held on the minutes of the July 18, 2002, meeting. On a MOTION duly made by Commissioner Carr and seconded by Commissioner Peterman, the Board voted unanimously to approve the July 18, 2002, minutes. Darren Hendricks a prospective restaurant developer gave a presentation on Duke’s Smokehouse on the River. The Manager of Economic Growth and Planning, Charlie Walker, presented his staff report. Charlie provided a list of companies or individuals that have contacted the department for city information or for visits to the city. Alex Cooke from TIP Development Strategies gave a presentation on the Economic Development website. No action was taken. Discussion was held regarding the evaluation of the performance of the BRR Contractor. Vice Chair Baker will draft a report to Council and e-mail to each Commissioner for comments. Working groups presented their reports to the Commission. The Retention working group reported they had agreed to defer meetings until input was received from TIPS. The Outreach working group reminded the Commission that John Brier, Vice President of Economic Development for the Greater Austin Chamber, is scheduled to speak in Georgetown on the evening of August 19th. All Commissioners were encouraged to attend. The Recruitment working group distributed copies of the Principles for Georgetown’s Economic Development Incentives guidelines. The Commission decided to review the guidelines and hold a special meeting for further discussion. Page 2 of 2 On a MOTION duly made by Commissioner Swain and seconded by Commissioner Blum, the Commission voted unanimously to hold a special meeting on September 5, 2002 to discuss and review the Principles for Georgetown’s Economic Development Incentives guidelines. DISCUSSION was held on agenda items for the next regular meeting of the commission. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
