Following Commissioner Carr’s presentation, DISCUSSION was held on the guidelines, presenting them to City Council, and the process of implementing the finalized version. Commissioners made suggestions on wording and content of the document. It was suggested that a flow chart be developed. The Commission was told to expect to receive proposals that require a reply in as little as 48 hours. As the guidelines do not provide standardized incentives, the Commission must clearly designate who has authority to make decisions regarding what will be offered. It was suggested that the draft guidelines be provided to City Council at least two weeks before the Commission meets with Council to discuss the document and implementation process. Further DISCUSSION was held on a request for proposal the Economic Development Department recently received. This request requires immediate reply, therefore, cannot wait for finalization of the Economic Development Incentives guidelines. TIP Development Strategies will provide information about Georgetown to the requesting company without providing specific information on available incentives. On a MOTION duly made by Commissioner Swain and seconded by Commissioner Heidemann, the Commission voted unanimously to accept the Principles for Georgetown’s Economic Development Incentives guidelines as a work in progress to be edited and presented to City Council. The meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
