4. Updates from the Board Task Forces
Reports from the individual Task Force groups are as follows:
Tourism Events / Consumer Marketing / Tourism Packages
No upcoming events; nothing to report.
Conference Center / External Funding
Kent reiterated that this project has been put on an indefinite hold. However, he
hoped that this Board would continue to advocate for a facility.
Website Review
No activity to report. However, Bill did suggest that the incoming Board formalize a
process by which content is provided.
Visitors Center / Volunteers
It seems that visitors are having difficulty finding the Visitors Center. Since
additional signage on 1-35 is not a possibility, Betty Ann suggested that directions to
the Visitors Center be included in the information packets in hotel rooms. The La
Quinta was willing to add them to their packets.
Market Data / Information Services
Randy reported that it continues to be very difficult, if not impossible, to collect data
on visitors to Georgetown and that the Board needs to rethink the process for
gathering information.
Tourism Industry Partners/Communication
Shelly shared that Tina, the manager at the new Comfort Suites, is very interested in
collaborating. Plans will be made to meet with her.
5. Board Terms and 2006 Officers
Shelly reported that swearing in of new Board members will be February 14 and
orientation will be February 22. She defined the officer positions available and asked
returning members to consider stepping into those roles. While the Board Chair is
appointed by the Mayor and City Council, the Vice -Chair and Secretary positions come
from the remaining members. If anyone is interested in any of the positions, please let
Shelly know.
