HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_CVB_06.06.2008EST. 1848 GEORGETOWN TEXAS Convention & Visitors Bureau Board Meeting Minutes — June 6, 2008 Georgetown CVB Office, Conference Room Present: Nancy Benold, chair; Taunya Vessels, vice -chair; Janine Butler, secretary; Betty Ann Sensabaugh; Randy Lesseps Absent: Michael Duck; Tina Owens City Staff: Cari Miller, Tourism Manager Visitors: Amy Vessels, Visitor Center Coordinator 1. Call to Order Nancy called meeting to order at 11:35 am 2. Minutes & Board Action Minutes from the May 2, 2008 were reviewed and amended. Randy pointed out a typo. The location of the May 2, 2008 board meeting should have read Georgetown CVB conference room instead of Georgetown Public Library Friends Room. Cari agreed to correct the error. MOTION was made and seconded (Lesseps/Sensabaugh) to approve the May 2nd minutes with change. Vote called to approve minutes (Benold). Motion passed unanimously. 3. Introduction of new Visitor Center Coordinator Amy Vessels welcomed as new Georgetown CVB Visitor Center Coordinator. Amy started Monday, June 2, 2008. She will act as liason for the Visitor Center volunteers. Amy's work hours are 8am-5pm M-F and Sat & Sun once a month. 4. Review 2008-09 CVB Board Work Plan outline Cari reviewed the plan but still needs information from Michael regarding his taskforce. 5. Discussion and possible action regarding monthly task force progress reports — Task Force Chairs a) New Markets — TinaaRandy- Meeting will be scheduled soon. b) Visitor Centers/CVB Operation - Betty Ann- Meeting scheduled O6/09/08 in Visitor Center at 10:30am. c) Hospitality Program/Public Awareness — Taunya and Margie Ranc- Taunya and Cari had a brief meeting for hospitality and discussed possibility of offering hospitality training and how much it costs. This training would be provided for the Visitor Center Volunteers, Inner Space Cavern employees, Downtown shop owners, and possibly gas station attendants. There is a train -the -trainer class offered at Texas A&M University possibly in the fall. d) Marketing Plan ---Michael (absent) e) Shopping - Janine- First meeting 05114/08, 12pm at Wolf Ranch Management Office postponed to possible date of 06/18108. f) Convention Center — Michael (absent) Task force chairs should be prepared to give a report each board meeting regarding taskforce progress. Visitor Center and Hospitality taskforces may hold first meeting as one committee. 7. Staff Report • Hotel occupancy down for April because of a tax refund; not indicative of hotel traffic. • Georgetown's indoor pool is coming soon. Georgetown CVB should start to promote Georgetown's tennis center. • Leads for the See Texas First program are doing well. • Fuel for Fun Motorcoach Promotion- Cari and Margie are working on this program. The concept is to get buses to stop and stay for 2 hours. First 20 tour buses operators will recevied a $50 giftcard. • Wolf Ranch Report (Janine)- Smokey Mo's Barbeque is now open. New stores coming soon include Starbucks, Fusion Med Spa, Mama Fu's, The Blood Center of Central Texas, Souper Salads and The Vitamin Shoppe. • Due to the July 4 holiday, the July board meeting will be July 11, 11:30am at the Comfort Inn & Suites. 8.
