HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_CVB_04.12.2010EST. 1848 GEORGETOWN TEXAS Convention & Visitors Bureau Board Meeting Minutes — April 12, 2010 Parks and Recreation Administration Building Present: Stephanie Blanck, Ty Gipson, Randy Lesseps, Tina Owen, Georgene Richaud, Taunya Vessels, Bob Villarreal City Staff: Cari Miller, Tourism Manager Call to Order Gipson called meeting to order at 11:47 a.m. Minutes & Board Action Minutes from February 12, 2010 were reviewed and no changes were made. MOTION was made and seconded (Lesseps/Vessels) to approve the March 12 minutes. Vote called to approve minutes (Gipson). Motion passed unanimously. Advertising and Media Exposure and Dates of Upcoming Events Miller gave an update an the following a dvertisinglmedia exposure and dates to remember: ■ Red Poppy Festival: o First Annual Red Poppy Queen Pageant was very successful. There were over 50 participants with various winners and an overall Queen. She will ride in a carriage in the parade. o Red Poppy T-shirts and posters will be on sale during the Festival o This event should be the best in years. ■ Reception for Artists - 300 attended. ■ Reviewed Hand out summary of March 2010 events (attachment) • Holiday Inn closing has impacted Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) revenues. • September 25th - Georgetown Air Fest. They are still in the early stages of planning and will need volunteers. Old Business Discussed the Board Retreat in Bastrop — everyone feels they learned a great deal and would benefit from continued education throughout the year. New Business/ Action Items Research needed to attract more weekday visitors to Georgetown: a Work closer with the local hotels in order to determine where the clients are coming from, what are they coming for and where to advertise. Cari Miller discussed a PowerPoint on the Role and Value of Tourism in Georgetown and will make contact with all the hotels to get their buy -in. a Each Board member will research a comparable size community anywhere in Texas that has a city owned conference center. Ask such questions as who is in charge of the center, how is the revenue generated, how often is it rented, by whom, etc. o The Chamber and the Library all have conference rooms. Ty Gipson will obtain a list from the Chamber and Georgene Richaud will obtain a list from the library - who has rented the facility and for what purpose? 0 Georgetown needs to establish ONE Identity to use in publicity in attracting week visitors. Ty Gipson and Cari Miller will set up meetings with Economic Development, the Arts and Culture Board, and Parks and Recreation; to work collaboratively in working with an outside consultant in developing a unified IdentityjTag/Hook. • Discussion regarding the CVB Board meetings for the year. Bob Villarreal moved that the meetings be held the 2nd Friday of each month at 8:30 AM. Seconded, approved unanimously. Board Meeting Time, Day. and Location Discusson regarding the CVB Board meetings for the year. MOTION was made and seconded (Villarreal/Vessels) to move that the meetings be held the 2" d Friday of each month at 8:30 a.m. Approved unanimously. MOTION was made and seconded (Lesseps/Vessels) to adjourn. Meeting adjourned at 1:35 pm.
