HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_HOUAB_05.21.2008Housing Advisory Board Minutes, May 21, 2008 Page 1 of 2 City of Georgetown Housing Advisory Board Minutes May 21, 2008, at 3:30 p.m. Glasscock Conference Room—Georgetown Municipal Complex 300-1 Industrial Ave., Georgetown, Texas 78626 Members present: Hartley Sappington; Chair , Nancy Biggs; Secretary, Cynthia Anderson, Janis Cowman-Arteaga, Emily Northrop, Naomi Walker Members absent: John Gavurnik, Debbie Hoffman, Larkin Tom Staff present: Jennifer Bills; Housing Coordinator, This is a regular meeting of the Housing Advisory Board of the City of Georgetown. The Board, appointed by the Mayor and the City Council, makes recommendations to the City Council on affordable housing matters. Regular Session - To begin no earlier than 3:30 p.m. Meeting called to order at 3:47 p.m. 1. Consideration and possible action to approve the minutes of the Housing Advisory Board meeting held on Wednesday, April 16, 2008. Motion to approve minutes by Northrop, second by Arteaga. Motion passed 5-0. 2. Update on Community Development Block Grants a. Projects for 2008/09 Bills updated the Board on the status of the four applications the City submitted to Williamson County for CDBG funding. Of the four applications, two have been recommended for funding. The first is the final phase of improvements around Leander and 22nd Street. This four year project has improved drainage, streets, curbs and sidewalks around the Habitat for Humanity Old Mill Village, as well as areas around other tax credit and public housing. The second project is to install sidewalks on the north side of FM 1460 between Austin Ave. and Quail Valley Dr. This is a single phase project that will allow pedestrians from low-income residential neighborhoods a safe place to walk to reach government and retail services. The approval for these recommendations will be considered at the June 3, 2008 Commissioner’s Court. Bills also updated that the Georgetown Housing Authority’s application for funding for Sierra Ridge Apartments was being examined by the Commissioner’s Court and might not be funded. b. Possible future projects Housing Advisory Board Minutes, May 21, 2008 Page 2 of 2 Bills stated that for the next several years the City would continue to apply with the County for CDBG funding. She passed out the Williamson County priorities for funding and asked them to consider projects they feel would be well suited for future applications. Bills stated that future projects could have more impact with more time put in on the application requirements. 3. Discussion items from Staff: a. Update on Housing Element progress. Bills updated that she was currently distributing surveys to local employers and City employees to gain information on wages and housing preferences. She also stated that the consultants would have a preliminary demographics report within the next several weeks. b. Update on Housing and Neighborhood Development projects. c. Additional items. 4.
