HomeMy WebLinkAboutBlack History Month_2.1.1988P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, February 1988, marks the 62nd Anniversary of Black History Month, organized in 1926 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, a prominent Historian, to honor outstanding Black Americans; and; WHEREAS, February 1, 1988 is the beginning of 29 days of celebrating Black History Month, commemorating the success and achievements made by Black Americans, in overcoming many obstacles and the contributions Blacks have made to American History and World Culture; and, WHEREAS, Black History Month will be sponsored by Citizens Memorial Association and other groups through out the City, from February 1, 1988 to February 29, 1988 THEREFORE, I, Jim Colbert, Mayor of Georgetown, Texas, hereby proclaim the month of February as Black History Month for this City and urge all citizens to recognize the achievements made by Black Americans. IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have set my hand and caused the seal of Georgetown to be affixed this 1st day of February, 1988.
