HomeMy WebLinkAboutPatrick Reilly_Veteran's Memorial_6.21.2011 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, over a half million Texans fought and served in the Vietnam War from 1954-1975; of those, 3,416 made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam, while more than 10,000 Texans were wounded; and WHEREAS, members of the 79th Texas Legislature agreed that a monument in honor of Texans who served in Vietnam will convey to those who visit the Capitol grounds a sense of history and upmost respect for those who have seen combat and otherwise demonstrated patriotism on behalf of others ; and WHEREAS, the Monument Committee selected Duke Sundt, known as “The Cowboy Artist,” to create this important monument because, in part, he comes from a military family and brings to the project 30 years of experience in bronze sculpture; and WHEREAS, Vietnam Veteran and U.S. Marine Corps Retiree Patrick Reilly, with the assistance of Chapter 1919 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, is currently exhibiting the Texas Vietnam War bronze marquette throughout the Great State of Texas to bring awareness to the campaign and to raise funding for the construction of the monument. NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE GARVER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, do hereby recognize: PATRICK REILLY and salute his efforts in facilitating a monument that appropriately honors our veterans.
