PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the Student Council of Pickett Elementary was set up so that students would be
involved in activities that would lead toward the development of character traits associated with
good citizenship, leadership, service learning and responsible behavior; and
WHEREAS, for more than 20 years, the American Student Council Association division of
the National Association of Elementary School Principals recognizes student councils across the
nation for making a difference in their schools and communities by organizing activities such as
community food and clothing banks, school beautification projects, tutoring programs and
fundraising events for disaster victims; and
WHEREAS, this year’s theme for the Pickett Elementary Student Council was “Service to
Others” and the council collected cans of food for the hungry, raised money for leukemia patients
and tsunami relief and lent a helping hand to those in need in the Georgetown area; and
WHEREAS, Pickett Elementary Student Council was just recently awarded the American
Student Council Association Honor Student Council Award and have been recognized nationally
for their outstanding efforts and hard work throughout the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE GARVER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
TEXAS, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, May 10, 2011, as
PICKETT ELEMENTARY DAY
in Georgetown, Texas, and congratulate the Student Council on this prestigious award.
