PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the John Philip Sousa Foundation, a non-profit organization, awards the
coveted Sudler Silver Cup Award to truly great middle school bands that have demonstrated
significant high standards of excellence in concert activities over a period of several years; and
WHEREAS, the foundation was initiated in 1985 and, since that time, less than fifty bands
have been given the award; and
WHEREAS, this year Georgetown’s Forbes Middle School is one of three schools in Texas
receiving the Sudler Silver Cup Award; and
WHEREAS, this recognition is of particular merit because recipients are selected from
applicants throughout the United States and Canada by a jury of previous cup recipients who meet
at the international Mid-West Band Convention in Chicago each year; and
WHEREAS, under the leadership of director, Jackie Fullerton and associate director, Lauren
Esparza, these talented musicians have proven themselves worthy of national and international
attention. Their accomplishments are a source of great pride to the community of Georgetown
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE GARVER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
TEXAS, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, May 24, 2011, as
FORBES MIDDLE SCHOOL DAY
in Georgetown, Texas, and congratulate the Forbes band on this prestigious award.
