HomeMy WebLinkAboutBattle of Britain Day_9.15.12 P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, there are few occasions in history where the actions of a few defenders changes the destiny, not just for a country, but for the world; and WHEREAS, “The Battle of Britain” was a dramatic turning point in the history of the Second World War and a defining moment in world history when the Royal Air Force gained air superiority over the Luftwaffe on September 15, 1940; and WHEREAS, Prime Minister Churchill boldly stated “Never in the field of human conflict have so many owed so much to so few”; and WHEREAS, American pilots heroically helped to maintain air superiority over the British Isles and gained air superiority over Europe and North Africa. The primary air superiority aircraft of the Royal Air Force was the Spitfire aircraft.; and WHEREAS, the “Brit Club” Interest Group of Sun City Texas, Georgetown, Texas will commemorate “Battle of Britain Day” on September 15, 2012, the official day for such commemoration, at the Dalrymple family plot in the Georgetown Presbyterian Cemetery. NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE GARVER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, recognize the sacrifices of these historical defenders of our liberty and do hereby proclaim Saturday, September 15, 2012 BATTLE OF BRITAIN DAY in Georgetown, Texas
