HomeMy WebLinkAboutEthel Moore Day_2.28.12 P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, Ethel Moore of Georgetown is being honored for many years of faithful service to the community of Georgetown; and WHEREAS, Ethel Moore was a graduate of the Marshall-Carver High School who longed to go to college, was a supporter of educators, and was a Cosmetology Business owner; and WHEREAS, Ethel Moore was a long-time member of the Friendly Will Missionary Baptist Church and loved old church hymns; and WHEREAS, Ethel Moore was motherless, but was very motherly, and was the Moore Family matriarch whose hobbies included sewing, baking and hosting social events; and WHEREAS, Ethel Moore was a true servant to her family, the community, and the needy; and embraced the community and its culture through programs and activities; and WHEREAS, Ethel Moore served as president of the Georgetown Cultural Citizen Memorial Association, helped organize the Socialite Ladies’ Club of Georgetown, served on the Handcrafts Unlimited Board, United Way, American Cancer Society and March of Dimes, was a servant to the elderly, took pride in restoration of historical monuments, and was a long-time supporter of the Juneteenth Festivities with an affiliation since 1952; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE GARVER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, do hereby proclaim March 13, 2012 as ETHEL MOORE DAY in Georgetown, Texas
