PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Square Dancing is the official folk dance of the State of Texas and provides both
physical and mental benefits to participants; and
WHEREAS, Square Dancing is a wholesome activity that creates strong social ties; and
WHEREAS, Square Dancing attracts visitors from all over the state of Texas to Georgetown;
and
WHEREAS, Georgetown has two square dance clubs, “Shirts ‘n’ Skirts” and “Sundancers,”
that provide citizens the opportunity to learn how to square dance each September; and
WHEREAS, members of the “Shirts ‘n’ Skirts” square dance club work with the Georgetown
Independent School District to give grade school students an introduction to square dancing.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE GARVER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
TEXAS, do hereby proclaim August 2012, as
SQUARE DANCE MONTH
and call upon all citizens to join with me in supporting Square Dancing in the community.
