All ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE
TEXAS ;,iT,r,.+ICIPAL .1,ETIRE1`ENT SYSTEI. BY THE CITY
OF Georgetown 'TEXAS,
FT1OVI=,'G FOrR AND I; PCTI?,IG TO SAVE ALL OF THE
EI:.PLOYEES OF (ALL) (DESIGIIATED) DEPARTMENTS OF
THE CITY GOVER1,111dENT, PARTICIPA'.iE Iil SUCH SYiTEY;
AND ACCEPTING ALL OF THE OBLIGATIONS AND BENEFITS
OF SUCH SYaTEA:.
WHEREAS, the Constitution of the State of Texas was arnended
on November 7, 1944, by the addition of Section 51-f, Article 111, which
authorized the Legislature to establish a state-wide retirement and disability
tension system for city employees;
V,'HEREAS, Chapter 75, Acts 50th Legislature (1947) as amended,
established The Texf!s Municipal Retirement System, and authorizes the gov-
erning'.body of each city or town to elect , at its option, to have one or
more of the city departments participate in such system; and
JIHEREAS, the governing body of the City of Georgetown ,
Texas, finds that it will be in the public interest for the city to have its
employees participate in The Texas I7unicipal Retirement System as hereinafter
provided; Mow, therefore,

TILS;
Section 1. That , on behalf of the City of GeorSetown- ,
Texas, the City Council hereby exercises its option anda eets tohave the
cite• and all of the employees of the following departments of said city, viz,
ITtility, electric, water & Sewer, Office , Street, ,
Sanitation, Police , and
participate in The Texas Municipal Retire-
ment System as provided in Chapter 75, Acts of the 50th Legislature, as
amended, (Article 6243h of Vernon's Civil Statutes of Texas): and all of the
beenfits and obligations of such system are hereby accepted as to such em-
ployees.
Section 2. The(Mayor or City Manager ) is hereby•directed to
notify the Board of Trustees of a Texas liunicinal Retirement System that
the City of Georgetown , Texas, has elected to participate and
have ti,e employees of the above departments participate in said System.
Section 3. ?Each person who becomes an employee of any parti-
cipating department on or after the effective date of participation. of such
department shall become a member of The Texas I:unicipal Retirement System as
a condition of his employment. The City of George+:own
Texas, mai* in the future refuse to add new departments or new employe s to
such dystem, but shall never discontinue as to any participants.
Section 4. In accordance with the provisions of the statute,
the deposits to Te made to The Texas ;:iunicipal Retirement System on account
of current service of the employees of the several participating departments
are hereby fixed at t,e rate of five per cent ( 5 ,j ) of the earnings of
such employee of said dep.;.rtments, and in determing tie deposits to be made
on account of such ser -rice the ea.rninrs of any employee of an1r such .lepart-
ment in excess of the sum of Forty Eight I{undred Dollars
4900.!,0 ) in nny one year shall not be considered.'

Section The(City Ma er or other proper official ) is
hereby directed to remit to the Board of Trustees of The Texas
Municipal Retirement System, at its office in Austin, Texas, the
city's contributions to the System and the amounts which shall be de-
ducted from the compensation or payroll of employees, all as re-
quired by said Board under the provisions of Chapter 75, Acts of the
50th L6gislature of the State of Texas, as amended, and the said
Ci . ty Manager is hereby authorized and directed to

ascertain and certify officially on behalf of the City of Georgetown
Texas, the prior service rendered to the said municipalitybyeach o
employees of the participating departments, and the average prior
service compensation rece,_,red by each, and to make and execute all
prior service certifications and all other reports and certifications
which may be required of the City of Geor.etown , Texas,
under the provisions of Chapter 7-'>, ActsRegular Session,_50th
Le;islature as amended , or n compliance with the rules and regulations
ofthe Bo^r9 of Tri.lstees of the Texas-unicipal Retirement System.
