HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 042506-HH-2 - 2006 TxDot STEP ProjectRESOLUTION NO. e•W Oh? /7 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, CERTIFYING FUNDING AND SUPPORT FOR THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN'S 2006 PROJECT NOMINATIONS FOR THE STATEWIDE TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM WITH THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown wishes to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety and improve accessibility for citizens with disabilities through the construction of the Austin Avenue Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to improve pedestrian mobility, connectivity and safety by completing missing sections of sidewalks on major roadways by constructing Sidewalk Improvements along State Highways; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to provide pedestrian and bicycle facilities that connect existing facilities to the new SH 130 corridor and provide links to City and County parks by constructing the Northeast Georgetown Trail; and WHEREAS, the City and the Williamson County and Cities Health District recognize the importance of educating the public about the safe interaction among motorists bicyclists and pedestrians and propose to implement the Williamson County Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program, and WHEREAS, the City wishes to preserve a high priority historical structure to serve as a visitor information center for the traveling public by completing the Historic Former City Hall and Fire Station Restoration; and WHEREAS, recognizing the importance of educating the public about the history of transportation including highlighting how aircraft and automobiles have changed the world we live in the City intends to construct the Texas Aviation and Automotive Museum at the Georgetown Municipal Airport. N OW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: S ECTION 1. Findings. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. S ECTION 2. The City of Georgetown will apply for funding through the Texas Department of Transportation to make the necessary improvements to complete the following projects: 1. Austin Avenue Pedestrian Bridge 2. Sidewalk Improvements along State Highways 3. Northeast Georgetown Trail 4. Williamson County Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program 5. Historic Former City Hall and Fire Station Restoration 6. Texas Aviation and Automotive Museum. The City agrees to commit to the projects' development, implementation, construction, maintenance, management and financing in cooperation with partner entities.
