RES 061306-N - Grant App Update Survey
Resolution No. 04 /3 06 "l( A resolution of the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas, authorizing the City Manager to execute agreements associated with the Certified Local Government grant request and committing funds of $42,000 to update and expand the 1984 Historic Resource Survey for the City of Georgetown. WHEREAS, The City of Georgetown has a stated commitment to the preservation of its historic resources; and, WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Georgetown rated the update of the Historic Resource Survey as a priority on the 2005/2006 budget, contingent upon grant funding; and, WHEREAS, The City of Georgetown is actively involved in the Main Street and Certified Local Government Programs; and, WHEREAS, the update and expansion of the Historic Resource Survey will aid in the implementation of the Downtown Master Plan and will assist in creating a Tax Abatement Program; WHEREAS, The City of Georgetown is eligible to participate in this program and has successfully submitted a grant application in the amount of $8,000; and, WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown agrees to fully fund the update and expansion of the Historic Resource Survey for $40,000 in the 2006/07 budget and will receive a reimbursement in the amount of $8,000 for the grant; and, Now, therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas, that: SECTION 1 The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements Historic Preservation Policy of the Century Plan, which states, "Prehistoric, historic and cultural resources are preserved, protected and promoted." The City of Georgetown's Demolition Ordinance is tied to the Historic Resources Survey so its proper implementation requires an update. SECTION 3. The City Council finds that the updated and expanded Survey would provide the basis for the update and expansion of a number of Heritage Tourism publications for the City of Georgetown, including the walking tour and "Exploring Historic Georgetown." SECTION 4. The City Council hereby authorizes City officials to participate in the Certified Local Government Grant program contingent on the City Council's approval in it's Fiscal Year 2006/2007 Budget of the requisite matching funds. SECTION 5. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.
