HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 022205-K - Appoint Officials ElectionRESOLUTION NO. elZ ZZ ©S- I1 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICIALS FOR THE MAY 7, 2005 GENERAL/SPECIAL ELECTION AND CORRECTING THE ELECTION DAY POLLING LOCATION FOR VOTERS WHO RESIDE IN WILLIAMSON COUNTY VOTING PRECINCTS 381 AND 310. WHEREAS, the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter of the City of Georgetown, Texas provide that on Saturday, May 7, 2005, there shall be a General/Special Election at which shall be elected the following officials for this City Mayor and one Councilmember from each. of Districts 2 and 6; and. WHEREAS, in conjunction with the General Election, there shall be held on Saturday, May 7, 2005, a Special Election to determine voter response regarding proposed increases in the City of Georgetown sales and use tax, and WHEREAS, the General Election was ordered by the Georgetown City Council by approval of Resolution 020805-FF at their regular meeting on February 8, 2005; and WHEREAS, the Special Election was ordered by the Georgetown City Council by approval of Ordinance 2005-12 at their regular meeting on February 8, 2005; and WHEREAS, the Election Day polling place for Georgetown citizens who reside within County Voting Precincts 381 and 310 was incorrectly listed in Resolution 020805-FF and Section 5 of Ordinance 2005-12, stating that they would vote at the Sun City Fitness Center, 2 Texas Drive, Georgetown, Texas but listed correctly on Exhibit C of the Ordinance; and WHEREAS, the actual May 7, 2005 General/Special Election Day polling location for Georgetown citizens who reside within County Voting Precincts 381 and 310 will be the Sun City Social Center, 2 Texas Drive, Georgetown Texas; and WHEREAS, the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter of the City of Georgetown, Texas further provide that the Election Code of the State of Texas is applicable to said election, and in order to comply with said Code, a Resolution should be passed establishing the procedure to be followed in said election, and approving the officials for said election. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDERED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS THAT: SECTION 1 - VERIFICATION OF FACTS Resolution No. 02•-22OS_ Ast Naming Officials for General/Special Election on May 7, 2005 Page 1 of 2 Pages The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. SECTION 2 - CONFORMANCE WITII CENTURY PLAN The City Council has found that this action implements Governmental Affairs Focus End 15.01 of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element, which states: "All citizens actively participate to governmental functions."; and has found that this action is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan. SECTION 3 — APPOINTMENT OF ELECTION OFFICIALS The Presiding and Alternate Presiding Judges for Early Voting and Election Day polling places shall be as stated on the attached Exhibit "A." SECTION 4 — CORRECTION OF ELECTION DAY POLLING LOCATION The Election Day Polling Location for Georgetown registered voters residing in Williamson County Voting Precincts 381 and 310 will vote on Election Day, May 7, 2005, at the Sun City Social Center, 2 Texas Drive, Georgetown Texas. SECTION 5 — AUTHORIZATION TO EXECUTE The Mayor of the City of Georgetown is authorized to execute and the City Secretary is authorized to attest to this Order on behalf of the City Council, and the Mayor is further authorized to do all other things legal andnecessary in connection with the holding and consummation of the General Election. SECTION 6 — EFFECTIVE DATE This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its approval. RESOLVED this 22nd day of February, 2005.
