HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 101105-I - Urban Forestry PartnershipRESOLUTION NO. /©!Ha A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, AUTHORI7.ING THE CITY MANAGFR TO EXECUTE AGREEMFNTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE "URBAN FORESTRY PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM" GRANTS REQUEST AND COMMITTING SHARED COST OF THE PROJECT AS DESCRIBED IN THE GRANT APPLICATION. WHEREAS, the 101st Congress of the United States, in developing the Forestry Title of the 1990 Farm Bill, found that the health of forests in urban areas and communities is on the decline; these forests, tree, and open spaces improve the quality of life for residents, enhance economic value of property and are most effective than rural trees at reducing the buildup of carbon dioxide due to the added energy savings for urban residents. WHEREAS, Congress defined the purpose of this program to include improving the understanding of the benefits of preserving existing tree cover, encourage property owners to maintain trees and expand forest cover; provide educational and technical assistance to local organizations in maintaining and expanding forest cover; provide competitive matching grants to local units of government and other approved organizations for urban forestry projects• implement a tree plating program; promote the establishment of demonstration projects to illustrate the benefits of forest cover; and enhance technical skills of individuals involved in establishing or maintaining urban foi est. WHEREAS, The City of Georgetown is eligible to participate inthis program and has successfully submitted a grant application in the amount of $20,000.00, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS SECTION 1: That the City of Georgetown hereby authorizes the City of Georgetown s City Manager to execute all agreements associated with the "Urban Forestry Partnership Program" Grant with the Texas forest Service. SECTION 2: That the City of Georgetown commits to providing its share of the project costs through cash match as described in the grant application. SECTION 3: This resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption. RESOLVED this 11th day of October, 2005.
