HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 022503-W-2 - Concealed HandgunsRESOLUTION NOW A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, OPPOSING LEGISLATION THAT WOULD PROHIBIT A MUNICIPALITY'S ABILITY TO RESTRICT CONCEALED HANDGUNS ON MUNICIPAL PREMISES. WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 411,203 of the Texas Government Code, public and private employers have the right to restrict a concealed handgun license holder from carrying a concealed handgun on their premises. WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 30.06 of the Texas Penal Code, a concealed handgun license holder commits an offense if the license holder carries a handgun on the property of another without effective consent and received notice that 1) entry on the property by a license holder with a concealed handgun was forbidden, or 2) remaining on the property with a concealed handgun was forbidden and failed to depart. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1, The City Council of the City of Georgetown opposes any legislation that would eliminate the authority of a city to regulate the possession of a handgun on municipal premises. SECTION 2. The Mayor is hereby authorized to execute, and the City Secretary to attest thereto this resolution on behalf of the City of Georgetown. SECTION 3.
