HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 022503-W-3 - Oppose ANX LawRESOLUTION i is 0 i ii i i wacignmatoigim c i. a i A• i T .. *- WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown is deeply concerned with any legislative attempt to change the current State Law regarding Annexation, and WHEREAS, annexation should be a local governmental tool decided by the local governing body who were elected by the people to make those difficult local land use and economic decisions, and WHEREAS, the current annexation process does allow feedback, comment and input from affected property owners, and WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown has recently adopted a Comprehensive Annexation Policy and Procedure to objectively evaluate and plan for future growth in on organized, incremental, and contiguous fashion, and WHEREAS, the effect of modifying current State Annexation Law could actually have an adverse effect, and may cause more sprawl, disorganized planning, and rampant development across Texas, and WHEREAS, the City has followed and supports the changes that were made in 1999 by the State Legislature regarding annexations and any further attempts to modify or amend at this time are unjustified and unwarranted. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: The City of Georgetown is very concerned about any and all attempts to modify current Texas Annexation Law and vehemently opposes any legislative attempt to change current annexation law.
