HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 112503-EE - Amend RES Special ElectionA RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 111103-Z PERTAINING TO THE ORDERING OF A SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL A VACANCY IN AN UNEXPIRED TERM F OR C OUNCIL D ISTRICT 7 I N G EORGETOWN, TEXAS TO BE HELD ON DECEMBER 20, 2003, TO ADD AN ELECTION DAY POLLING PLACE. WHEREAS, on November 11, 2003, by resolution No. 111103-Z, the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas called a Special Election for December 20, 2003 at which one (1) Member of the Georgetown City Council from Single -Member District 7 would be elected to fill an unexpired term; and WHEREAS, Section 10 of Resolution No. 111103-Z inadvertently left out one of the two election day polling places used in the immediately preceding election held in May 2003 for voters residing in District 7; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to amend Resolution No. 111103-Z to add a polling place on election day at the U.S. Post Office located at 2300 Scenic Drive, Georgetown, Texas, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDERED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS THAT: SECTION 1 - VERIFICATION OF FACTS The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council has found that this action implements Governmental Affairs Focus End 15.01 of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element, which states: "All citizens actively participate in governmental functions;" and has found that this action is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan. SECTION 2 — AMENDMENT OF SECTION 10 OF RESOLUTION NO. 111103-Z Section 10 of Resolution No. 11103-Z, pertaining to Election Day Voting, is hereby amended to read as follows: SECTION 10 - ELECTION DAY VOTING Special Election Resolution No. • (Amending Resolution No. I I l l03-Z) Page I of 3 Pages Election Day voting shall take place at the Williamson. County Courthouse, 710 Main Street, for voters who reside within the boundaries of City of Georgetown Single -Member District 7 and within County Voting Precincts 142, 314, 357, and 370; and at the Georgetown Post Office, 2300 Scenic Drive, for voters who reside within the boundaries of City of Georgetown Single -Member District 7 and within County Voting Precinct 369, as shown on the attached Exhibit " A ". In the event of a Runoff Election on January 24, 2004, the same election day voting locations will be used as stated in the above paragraph for the Special Election on December 20, 2003, SECTION 3 -- APPOINTMENT OF ELECTION OFFICIALS The officials for the Special Election shall be as follows: Early Voting at the Courthouse: Romona Sanchez Zelasko and Linda Lindell 109 Norwood Drive 108 Spanish Oak Circle Election Dag At Post Office: At Courthouse: J. D. Thomas, Judge Ruth Thomas, Alt. Judge/Clerk 302 Walnut Diane Sansom, Judge 1508 Laurel Street Sammye Bryant, Alternate 309 Walnut Street SECTION 4 — EFFECT OF AMENDMENT ON RESOLUTION NO. III 103-Z Except as stated above in. Section 2, there are no other changes to Resolution No. 111103-Z, and all provisions of Resolution No. 111103-Z that are not amended hereby shall remain in full force and effect. SECTION 5 - AUTHORIZATION TO EXECUTE The Mayor of the City of Georgetown is authorized to execute and the City Secretary is authorized to attest to this Order on behalf of the City Council; and the Mayor is further authorized to do all other things legal and necessary in connection with the holding and consummation of the Special Election, Special Election Resolution No. (Amending Resolution No. 111103-Z) Page 2 of 3 Pages SECTION 6— PREAMBLE TRUE AND CORRECT The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. SECTION 7 — EFFECTIVE DATE This Order shall be effective immediately upon its approval. RESOLVED this 25th day of November, 2003.
