Design Guidelines
Artwork on utility boxes functions as a form of communication to a moving audience with the goal of
creating a vibrant, inclusive and interesting urban environment. Successful proposals will foster
community pride and contribute to a sense of identity for the citizens.
The first installment of the Utility Box Art Project will involve installing a wrap on all four sides of two
separate traffic control boxes located at the corners of Austin Ave. and 8th Street and Austin Ave. and 71h
Street. A digital image of the artwork will be used to produce the wrap. A professional installer will
install the wrap onto each utility box. The City of Georgetown will pay for the wrap and installation.
• This project has no theme. You can submit ideas for the boxes individually or you can submit
ideas that would incorporate both boxes. However, the board will only accept 3
submissions per artist.
• The utility box on the corner of Austin Ave. and 7th Street is in the direct sunlight and due to the
instruments within the box, light colors must be used on this box to reflex sunlight and reduce
interior heat. The utility box on the corner of Austin Ave. and 81h Street is located in the shade
and darker colors can be used.
• Please submit renderings to scale. Please see attachment with approximate dimensions.
Selection
The Georgetown Arts and Culture Board will make the final selections at the regularly scheduled
meeting of the board following the submission deadline.
Ideal artwork will use bright, vibrant colors and designs that stand out at a distance. The board
encourages you to visualize how your design will look from far away and from all sides.
The Arts and Culture Board hopes to have the wraps installed before the first weekend in October.

Subject: Re: Library Artwork
I don't disagree with much of what you have said and I don't often take my children to the second floor due to the
possibility of art that might not be appropriate for children on display there. But for an area that is frequented by
children like the entrance to the library I believe this choice of display was ill chosen. I, like other parents, would like to
be able to come and go from the library's children's section without having to avoid such displays or even have to be
concerned that there might be displays that we would need to avoid simply coming and going. Had this been a display in
the adult section or an area that the children do not frequent I certainly would not have taken issue.
I would appreciate the information I would need to voice my concern to the city's arts council and request it's removal
from this particular location.
Thank you very much for your time.
*Sincerely,
Kimberly Uyechi

Arts and Culture Board Members,
Thinking about the Egyptian sculpture that you will need to review at next month's meeting, reminded me that a few
years ago there were a number of articles written about the restoration of our Courthouse. At the time they moved
Lady Justice who stands atop the Courthouse into the Williamson Museum. The community took pride in the fact that
we were restoring the Courthouse and eagerly awaited the return of Lady Justice. Please see attachment of Lady Justice
and remember.there were no complaints about having this semi-nude sculpture at the heart of our downtown.
