Arts and Culture Board Members: Amanda Still, Dar Richardson, Liz Stewart, Philip Baker, Shana Nichols, Steve Proesel Arts and Culture Board meets every third Tuesday of the month at 4:30 p.m. unless otherwise specified. Jessica Brettle, City Secretary Minutes of the Meeting of the Arts and Culture Board City of Georgetown, Texas Tuesday, September 11, 2012 Members Present: Philip Baker, Steve Proesel, Dar Richardson, Liz Stewart, Amanda Still Members Absent: Shana Nichols (medical, excused) Staff Present. Eric Lashley, Library Director; Judy Fabry, Library Administrative Assistant Others Present: Marcy Urban Main Street Board A. Chair Baker called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. B. Announcements regarding upcoming events • Lashley announced a Main Street -sponsored Breakfast Bites meeting at 8:00 a.m. on September 19 at the library The speaker will be from Fredencksburg and will talk about lessons learned in developing their tourism focus. Cost is $10. • On October 11 the Main Street Board will visit Fredericksburg with the intent of talking with arts -related business people. Anyone from the Arts and Culture Board is welcome to make the trip. Dar and Amanda said they would like to go along. • On Saturday, October 13, the Austin Lyric Opera will perform Act 2 of Pagliacci in front of the south entrance to the Williamson County Courthouse • Stewart reminded everyone of the Symphony Society's Tchaikovsky concert on Sunday, September 16, featuring Michelle Schumann. • Richardson said that the sculptures on Main Street will be changed out beginning in late October and new pieces will be in place before the lighting of the Square on Thanksgiving weekend. C. There were no citizens wishing to address the Board. D. Consideration and approval of minutes of August 28, 2012 meeting — Stewart moved to accept the minutes as distributed. Still seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. E Consideration of and possible action on 1. Amended Boards & Commissions Attendance Policy — Judy Fabry. Fabry read the amended attendance policy, which now allows two absences for medical reasons. to the board members. 2. Art Center — Eric Lashley. Lashley reported that plans for the art center are progressing nicely. Gary Wang informally presented the in -progress proposal for the exterior changes and the improvements to the pocket park to the Historic Architecture Review Commission (HARC) during August. His ideas were well received and he and Eric believe that HARC will approve the finished plans when they are submitted at the commission's October meeting. Work should begin soon on the sidewalk improvements in front of Thundercloud Subs and the art center. Thundercloud has requested that some trees be added along the street in front of their store. Georgetown Art Works is having their third retreat the weekend of September 15. This one will focus on fund-raising. Members of the GAW board are also meeting this week with a former director of an art center in Austin. 3. Entries in Utility Box Art call for proposals — Eric Lashley, Judy Fabry. Members of the board had received electronic copies of the proposals prior to the meeting. Fabry presented the original entry packages for review. After some discussion the members each voted for the two proposals that they preferred. The vote was unanimous for Judith Shriner's proposal (images of a quilt), which will be used for the 7th Street utility box. For the second image, 3 members voted for Davin Hoyt's "Thru" proposal and 2 members voted for Heather Kasper's dog images. Everyone agreed that the majority choice would prevail. Proesel moved to accept Schriner's and Hoyt's proposals. Richardson seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Fabry will notify Schriner and Hoyt by telephone and will email the results to the other entrants. 4. Art in the Square, October 6-7 — Eric Lashley. Lashley reported that Cari Miller of the Convention and Visitors Bureau had told him that Lynette Wallace will provide wine and beer for an artists reception if the Arts and Culture Board will host the event and provide food. It would take place on Saturday evening, after the show closes for the day. Richardson moved to host the reception. Stewart seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Lashley reported that the number of artists who will be participating this year is down considerably from last year and that the event will not take place in 2013. 5. Schedule of future meetings — Eric Lashley. It was not necessary to reschedule the October meeting.
