GEORGET4WN PUBLIC LIBRARY
August 2012
HIGHLIGHTS
• Kathleen Burnop, a member of the staff for more than sixteen years, resigned
effective September 14. She is retiring; Although she has always been a half-time
employee, she has been Rosa Garcia's able assistant for her entire tenure, accepting
responsibility for all of the weekly storytime programs and working side -by -side with
Rasa through fourteen summer reading programs:
• Summer Delight was the title of the monthly art show which was a collaboration o
eight artists, most of whom were showing watercolors. The Texas Society of Sculptors'
show continues until the end of September. On Saturday, August 11, four of the
sculptors gave public demonstrations of their work, one working in oil -based clay,
another in terra Gotta clay, a third in ceramic and mosaic glass; and a fourth in mixed
media. After an initial flurry of criticism about the Egyptian sculpture at the entrance to
the library, most people seemed pleased with the show. The people who .had
complained about the Egyptian piece did not pursue their grievance with the Arts and
Culture Board.
• The;WC?W!mobile did not run the last week of August. It was in the slop for routine
maintenance and Michele Harber, thecommunityoutreach librarian, took a week's
vacation:
STAFF ACTIVITIES.
• Eric Lashley spoke can August 10 to the Williamson County Christian Women's
Connection about library services and the art center.
• 4n August 17 Eric Lashley attended a meeting of the CTLS Lone -Range Planning
Committee. It appears that the director of CTLS has begun making the changes
necessary for CTLS to continue functioning for another year.
