HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_LAB_01.14.2013DIRECTOR'S MONTHLY REPORT GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY December 2012 HIGHLIGHTS • Santa's Storyland took place Friday, December 7, from 6-9 p.m. The library's family Christmas event was very well attended. Taylor Weaver provided music and a well- known library director posed as Santa. Many patrons used this event as an opportunity to bid Rosa farewell. • Robert Barber, a library assistant who works in public services, was named one of three City-wide Employees of the Year at the annual Employee Recognition Luncheon on December 14. • At the storytime holiday party on December 14, winners of the Edible Construction Extravaganza were announced: (1) original design, ages 8 and younger— Dillon P.; (2) original design, ages 9-12 — Sarah & Annie S.; (3) Original design, ages 13-17 — Audrey C.; (4) original design by two or more people — Grace Academy Latin Club; (5) design made from a kit — Payton and Dalton. • Julie Arnold displayed her wildlife paintings in the galleries this month. Just Friends, a jazz/dance band, played for the monthly live music event on Sunday, December 16. • Rosa Garcia, who was in charge of the children's library for the past 20 years, retired on December 31. STAFF ACTIVITIES: • Rosa Garcia, dressed as one of Santa's elves, rode the bookmobile with Community Outreach Librarian Michele Harber on December 13. • On an unseasonably warm afternoon on December 19, Eric Lashley, dressed as Santa Claus, went with Michele on the bookmobile, for the Kendell St. stop. Sheri Miklaski went along to take pictures of the children with Santa.
