GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
December 2012
HIGHLIGHTS
• Santa's Storyland took place Friday, December 7, from 6-9 p.m. The library's family
Christmas event was very well attended. Taylor Weaver provided music and a well-
known library director posed as Santa. Many patrons used this event as an
opportunity to bid Rosa farewell.
• Robert Barber, a library assistant who works in public services, was named one of
three City-wide Employees of the Year at the annual Employee Recognition Luncheon
on December 14.
• At the storytime holiday party on December 14, winners of the Edible Construction
Extravaganza were announced: (1) original design, ages 8 and younger— Dillon P.;
(2) original design, ages 9-12 — Sarah & Annie S.; (3) Original design, ages 13-17 —
Audrey C.; (4) original design by two or more people — Grace Academy Latin Club;
(5) design made from a kit — Payton and Dalton.
• Julie Arnold displayed her wildlife paintings in the galleries this month. Just Friends,
a jazz/dance band, played for the monthly live music event on Sunday, December 16.
• Rosa Garcia, who was in charge of the children's library for the past 20 years, retired
on December 31.
STAFF ACTIVITIES:
• Rosa Garcia, dressed as one of Santa's elves, rode the bookmobile with Community
Outreach Librarian Michele Harber on December 13.
• On an unseasonably warm afternoon on December 19, Eric Lashley, dressed as
Santa Claus, went with Michele on the bookmobile, for the Kendell St. stop. Sheri
Miklaski went along to take pictures of the children with Santa. A good time was had
by all.
