GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
January 2013
HIGHLIGHTS
• Judy Ghetti Ommen and Carolyn Todd displayed their encaustic and mixed media
works in the galleries during January. Approximately 60 people attended their opening
reception on Sunday; January 6. During their event the tai chi instructors who give
classes at the library did a demonstration in the lobby and an itinerant harpist played
for a while at the reception and there at the demonstration. A serendipitous good time
was had by all!
• Staff and volunteers said farewell to Rosa Garcia at a big party in the library meeting
rooms on Saturday, January 12. Another good time was had by all!
• Staff breathed a collective sigh of relief when the building was completely rekeyed on
January 18. The original locks had been problematic from the outset and had become
increasingly difficult to work in the past six months:
.STAFF ACTIVITIES:
• Kathleen Bowling spent several days organizing and stowing the large number of
Christmas decorations that the library uses every year; All of the decorations must be
stored in a warehouse away from the library, so it is important to have containers
covered and labeled, something that has not taken place in the past.
• Bethni King has been standing in as children's librarian since Rosa left. She also
handled all of the storytimes one week when Kalena was absent due to illness.
• Kalena Powell, who took over storytime duties in November, gave notice that she will
be quitting in late February.
