HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_LAB_03.11.2013DIRECTOR'S REPORT GEORGETOWN •LIC LIBRARY February 2013 HIGHLIGHTS • 1ethhi King, who has been the library's young adult librarian for the past six years, was selected to become the new hil ren's librarian. • Austin Encaustic Arts group displayed their work in the galleries during February, After a month without a live music event, the series resumed on Sunday, February 17. The four -piece jazz group Cactus Groove entertained an enthusiastic audience in the lobby: • On February 20 Alyssa Harad, the most recent author in the Friends' Fill Country Authors series, spoke about her book, Coming to My Senses, to an audience of about 70. • ,Staff submitted a grant proposal to the Texas State Library for a third year of funding for the WOW!mobile librarian's salary and for a part-time person to help with the bookmobile. The demand for bookmobile services has exceeded the time available to the librarian to add more steps. • Providing income tax forms and volunteers who will prepare individual returns are two; of the library's most well-known nontraditional services. This year the paper forms were about a month late, which prompted many phone calls from people who were inquiring about whether the forms had arrived: The volunteers who prepare tax returns report that they have been busy but not swamped, STAFF ACTIVITIES: • On February 1, Bethni King and Toni Nietfeld traveled to Temple to attend a CTLS_ sponsored workshop about the summer reading program. These meetings make it possible for the children°s staff from central Texas libraries to network and make arrangements to share programming. It is almost impassible to stay dray walking that way if raining.: needs a rain gutter. Patron Comment: YF shelves are overloaded -- no space to shelve without moving numerous books to other shelves. Patron Comment. You have the best handicapped bathrooms in all of Georgetown.
