approved. Motion seconded by Beverly Adam. Motion carried.
3. Staff Report: Shelly Hargrove gave a follow‐up report on the National
Main Streets Conference in New Orleans, including notes and handouts of
some of the educational sessions. She also gave a progress report on
several downtown projects including: wayfinding signage will have a test
run at the airport before coming to downtown, Main Street streetscape
around 9th St. will begin this summer, Austin Ave. streetscape will start
construction in 2007, Monument Cafe has until July 31 to begin
construction, and the new library is on schedule with the steel structure
finished.
Eight new postcards of different tourism sites in Georgetown were
distributed to board members. Assistance is needed to help with TDA
President’s Awards applications that are due by August 18.
4. Alvin Lankford presented the basis for establishing the appraised value of
downtown properties. It was apparent from his presentation that little
flexibility in appraised value is possible within state regulations and that
significant tax relief seemed unlikely.
5. Danielle Penland gave presentation on Chandeliers, a special events
venue, at 704 Austin Ave. Information in handout was reviewed.
Discussion followed regarding possible a support letter for Chandeliers by
Main Street Advisory Board.
6. Presentation by Chris Dyer regarding WCHM’s Chisholm Trail
Event/Trail Drive to take place on Friday, August 25, 6:00‐8:30pm. Events
will include pony rides, children’s books and barbecue. Laura suggested
that people be dressed in period clothing. It was agreed that a planning
meeting should be put into place. Support and funding are needed for
this event.
7. Larry McCormick mentioned “Feet on Street” as the single most
important consideration in maintaining financial viability of the
downtown.
8. Sarah Jane Blankenship discussed the mural on the Visitors Information
Center and indicated that a mural could possibly be painted on the
building next to the library.
9. Bryant Boyd will discuss the TIF district at the next Main Street Advisory
Board meeting in the context of economic restructuring.
10. Motion to adjourn by Dana Wood at 9:50. Motion seconded by Terri
Brisse.
