MAIN STREET ADVISORY BOARD MTG. MINUTES
5 P.M. – FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2012
GUMBO’S NORTH RESTAURANT, 701 S. MAIN ST.
2ND FLOOR BANQUET ROOM, GEORGETOWN, TEXAS
Board Members Present: Denise Jimenez, Amanda Parr, Marcy Urban, Julie

1. The meeting was called to order at 5:01 p.m. by Board Chair Denise Jimenez.
2. Denise moved to approve the November 16th board meeting minutes, Julie
seconded. All board members present voted to approve (6-0, Marcy Urban was
not present to vote).
3. David Cohen with ThunderCloud Subs presented his façade and sign grant
application for 814 S. Main that will include replacement of garage doors with
storefront window and door system that looks similar to original doors, a new
steel/wood tie-rod canopy with down lights, improved roof with insulation and
new sign aluminum lettering sign of white letters with red border with back
lighting what a total project cost of $113,171. Linda moved to accept the $10,000
façade grant and $500 matching sign grants pending HARC approval, Amanda
seconded. All board members present voted to approve (7-0). David mentioned
that there will be solar panels on the roof.
4. Committee Reports:
a. Promotion: Denise reported progress on Swirl that approximately 46 wine
bottles have already been collected for wine auction and each board member
will be responsible to sell 20 wine auction tickets each. Twenty-five event
tickets have already sold online with ticket sales having started on
December 1.
b. Design: Amanda reported that of the 15 total entries in the inaugural
holiday lighting contest, the Judges Award Winners were: Best in Square –

All Things Kids, Window Wonderland – Gumbo’s North, and Home for the
Holidays – Georgetown Antique Mall. People’s Choice will be announced
at First Friday this week but it’s looking like the Williamson Museum is the
favorite. Amanda recommended that the Visitor Center be open during
next year’s Lighting of the Square so that folks could vote that night for
People’s Choice and drop off their ballots. Also for public restroom
accessibility in the city council chambers lobby as well as the arts center.
David reported on ornament inventory with only 28 Lockett, 148 Light &
Water Works Bldg, and 105 fire house ornaments left. Heritage Society will
sell them in the Homes Tour this weekend for $20 each which includes tax
to keep it simple. Linda mentioned a thank you ad to the holiday lighting
sponsors in The Sun as well as each board member writing thank you letters
to who they contacted. Linda mentioned her interest in talking more with
the county about lighting up the trees on their courthouse lawn. Marcy and
Julie mentioned Valerie Covey visited the ornament booth during the Stroll
to discuss the lights.
c. Economic Restructuring: Jim reported on today’s Southwestern Football Pep
Rally meeting where two pep rallies will take place next fall for the first
game on September 6 and then for Homecoming Weekend, both First
Fridays. Also discussed a community benefactor program tour with lunch
soon. The annual Candlelight Tour is this Thursday at 6 and 8 p.m. Marcy
discussed downtown video proposal with Matt Graves about downtown
business videos posted online and maybe discussed during and upcoming
Breakfast Bites.
5. Laurie discussed the upcoming Gallo Wine trip to California. This trip will be
mainly an informational-gathering trip to visit downtown Paso Robles which was
a benchmark city in the IF Marketing Downtown Report and meet with their city
government contacts which recruited multiple wineries to their downtown and
check out their retail mix. Will also meet with several Gallo contacts and discuss
on ways to possibly work together and their customer experience.
6. The next board meeting will be January 11. Linda mentioned scheduling a
meeting with Amanda and Jim Briggs to discuss the future funding of the
downtown holiday lights. The meeting adjourned at 5:53 p.m.
