HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 100912-Q - Suspend Comment PeriodRESOLUTION NO. 10091 a A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THN; CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, SUSPENDING THE THIRTY (30) DAY COMMENT PERIOD REQUIRED PURSUANT TO THE RESOLUTION ESTABLISJIING A POLICY FOR NAMING CITY FACILITIES, PUBLIC PARK LANDS, AND PUBLIC STREETS FOR THE NAMING OF THE NORTH SAN GABRIEL TRAIL IN HONOR OF RANDY MORROW. WHEREAS, on November 14, 2006 the City Council approved a Resolution establishing a Policy for Naming City Facilities, Public Park Lands, and Public Streets; and WHEREAS, over the last year, there has been an interest by elected officials, staff, board members, and citizens to formally recognize former Community Service Director, Randy Morrow, with a memorialization by naming a facility or trail in his honor; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the policy, the City Manager received a recommendation from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (September 13, 2012) to name the North San Gabriel Trail in honor of Randy Morrow, the former Community Services Director for the City of Georgetown; and WHEREAS, according to the Policy, on September 25, 2012, the City Council appointed two councilmembers (Danny Meigs and Patty Eason) to serve on the committee to make recommendations to the Council with regard to this request; and WHEREAS, while the policy identifies criterium, there are exceptions under Section IV A General Criteria which would allow for the North San Gabriel Trail to be named after Randy Morrow now. His contributions and impact to the Georgetown Parks and Recreation Program, Service, and Facilities is remarkable. Under the criteria, he has clearly: • Demonstrated a substantial community service that has had a major impact or benefit to a large sector of the City from an individual. • Demonstrated a dedication to service in ways that brings special credit to the City. Resolution Number, 00110— Description: Resolution Suspending Thirty Day Comment Period Date Approved: $ : 2012 Page 1 of 3 • Volunteered and given extraordinary help to individuals, families, groups, or community services. • Made many outstanding and quality accomplishments by an individual for the good of the community throughout his tenure in the community. • Exhibited a fine moral character. • Demonstrated leadership qualities. • Provided contributions that compliment and support the mission of the City of Georgetown. • Made substantial contributions through his service in the community as both the Parks and Recreation Director and Community Service Director for the City of Georgetown.. • Was involved with many initiatives relating to a specific program or project of exceptional merit, which has extensively and directly benefited the public; specifically the quality growth and impact of the many Parks and Recreation programs completed for the benefit of citizen the City of Georgetown. WHEREAS, Randy Morrow has far exceeded this criteria and therefore is more than worthy of having the honor of having the North San Gabriel Trail being named after him as a testament and legacy of his work and dedication to the City of Georgetown; and WHEREAS, the Committee for Naming City Facilities, Public Park Lands, and Public Streets stet on October 2, 2012 and has recommended approval of this recommendation; and WHEREAS, per the Policy, there is a normally a thirty (30) day comment period after the Committee makes it recommendation; however, the City Council desires to suspend the thirty (30) day comment period as required by the policy for this naming; and Resolution Number JOb9fa- Description: Resolution Suspending Thirty Day Comment Period Date Approved: = 2012 Page 2 of 3 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: SI-CTION 1. The City Council of the City of Georgetown hereby agrees to suspend the thirty (30) day comment period required pursuant to the Policy for Naming City Facilities, Public Park. Lands and Public Streets established in Resolution No. 11-14-06-U for the naming of North San Gabriel Trail in honor of Randy Morrow the former Community Services Director for the City of Georgetown.
