WHEREAS, The City Council is concerned with traffic safety in and around construction
sites; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has determined that the designation of truck routes and
temporary speed zones in and around construction areas would be in the best interest of the City.

SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this ordinance are
hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and
expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this
ordinance implements Transportation Policy 1 of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element, which
states: "The City will encourage a transportation system that provides for the safe and efficient
movements of traffic, promotes the economic interests of the community, and adequately serves
the personal needs of individuals.", and further finds that the enactment of this ordinance is not
inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of
the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan,
SECTION 2. Section 10.04.010 of the Code of Ordinances is hereby amended by adding
the following duties and authority to the City's Traffic Engineer:
"K. Designate and mark temporary truck routes to be followed
by construction vehicles and equipment on City streets;
and
L. Designate and erect appropriate signage for temporary speed
zones for truck traffic on City streets in and around
construction areas."
SECTION 3. Section 12.12.030 of the Code of Ordinances is hereby amended by
Truck Traffic Ordinance No.03

adding the following sections relating to speed zones on City streets:
"F. 30 Mile Per Hour Zones:
1. The speed limit on all City streets is hereby designated to be 30
miles per hour unless otherwise posted in compliance with this
Chapter.
G. Temporary Construction Zones
1. The speed limit in and around construction areas shall be as
designated by official signage erected by authority of the City's
Traffic Engineer so long as the signage is posted in compliance
with the Manual on Traffic Control Devices."
SECTION 4. All ordinances and resolutions, or parts of ordinances and resolutions, in
conflict with this Ordinance are hereby repealed, and are no longer of any force and effect.
SECTION 5. If any provision of this ordinance or application thereof to any person or
circumstance, shall be held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the other provisions, or
application thereof, of this ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or
application, and to this end the provisions of this ordinance are hereby declared to be severable.
SECTION b. The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign this ordinance and the City
Secretary to attest. This ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and effect in (10)
ten days on and after publication in accordance with the provisions of the Charter of the City of
Georgetown.
